Publisher's summary

The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist. Put New York Times best-selling authors Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett together...and all Hell breaks loose.

Critic reviews

"Pratchett (of Discworld fame) and Gaiman (of Sandman fame) may seem an unlikely combination, but the topic (Armageddon) of this fast-paced novel is old hat to both. Pratchett's wackiness collaborates with Gaiman's morbid humor; the result is a humanist delight to be savored and reread again and again." (Amazon.com review)

...

story wasn't for me; found it boring far too often. great performance, the reader was the highlight of the audio book for me.

Less than the sum

Somehow this collaboration is less innovative and engaging than other titles by each author on his own. Perhaps it is dated and would have been more satisfying had I read it when published. I am glad to have bought and listened but doubt I will revisit it.

I cannot abide by this narrator.

Chapter 1 of this book. I’m sure the story is quite good, either both highly regarded others. But this narrator has such a horribly jaunty way of reading, and I could not focus on a single word he said—whole parts of sentences were just lost in mumbles and weird affectations. Absolute waste.

Who is who and when is when?

I had a hard time following this book and trying to figure out exactly who what, when and where. The narrators voice and performance are the only thing kept me in this book but I just couldnt stay with it. An 11 year old boy talking like a 20 something yr old. Or maybe he was 20 something as I was never able to keep up with any timelines or characters. I had to eventually put it down as I was just completely lost.

Bad Choice

It was so boring I could not finish it. I wish I could get credit for a different book.

Not for me

It barely held my interest at all. I only finished it so is not to waste the credit I used to purchase this book. On to the next one.

I'd forgotten how much I love this book!

I read this year's ago, when I had the space in my life to sit and read. I knew I loved it, but I didn't remember how much I loved it. The irreverent humour polishing the deeper messages was spot on. I can see both Gaiman and Pratchett in here, but woven seamlessly together. The reading was excellent, giving the characters their own life. For example, I have been think of this Crowley and Supernatural's interchangeably and now he has a definition I hadn't given him before. I was so sad when this was over, i wish there was more. Not that it is in any way incomplete, just a wonderful world to exist within for a while.

Sarcastic, Irreverent Tale of Good and Evil

It's a sarcastic, irreverent tale of Good and Evil getting ready to battle when the world is predicted to come to an end... on a Saturday just before dinner. The most interesting characters are the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, who occasionally hang out together. Crowley really isn't all that bad for a demon. And Aziraphale sometimes could be persuaded to look the other way by Crowley. It takes a while to get into the story. Groups of characters go in and out and there's no connection to the other groups. Eventually they all come together for the apocalypse and then all that back story has relevance.

Amusing...

...but not quite as good as I had expected. Everyone I know loves this book and I probably went in with too high of expectations. It's entertaining but somehow a little too clever and a bit dated. I am very much looking forward to the television adaptation, and I think that the tone will be smoothed out in the series. Still, I enjoyed it and it clips along at a good pace.
