Publisher's summary

NOW A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES • “Gone for Good contains more plot twists than you can count, with a jarring revelation in nearly every chapter. . . . [Harlan] Coben has crafted a taut thriller with a slew of compelling characters. . . . As subtle as a shotgun, and just as effective.”—San Francisco Chronicle

As a boy, Will Klein had a hero: his older brother, Ken. Then, on a warm suburban night in the Kleins’ affluent New Jersey neighborhood, a young woman—a girl Will had once loved—was found brutally murdered in her family’s basement. The prime suspect: Ken Klein. With the evidence against him overwhelming, Ken simply vanished. And when his shattered family never heard from Ken again, they were sure he was gone for good.

Now eleven years have passed. Will has found proof that Ken is alive. And this is just the first in a series of stunning revelations as Will is forced to confront startling truths about his brother—and himself. As a violent mystery unwinds around him, Will knows he must press his search all the way to the end. Because the most powerful surprises are yet to come.

“Coben stands on the accelerator and never lets up. . . . The action is seamless, clear, and riveting.”—People (Page-turner of the Week)

Narrator is terrible!!!

The story line is good but I can't get into it because the narrator is terrible!!! Also, the whole time I was listening I heard another story in the background.

I love Harlan Coben, but this is a slip for him.

My wife suggested this book to me because she loved it. I truly enjoyed the first Bolitar series and a few stand alone books from Coban. His style of writing usually makes the main characters seem real and the stories possible. This book was enjoyable to listen to but at several times I got lost as to what was happening to who. I can't be the only one because at a few points the main character has to explain the convoluted plot line to other characters just so the reader can keep up with the far to many twists and unsupported turns in the book. At the end of the book another character has to sum up many of the unconnected bits as the book just sort of ends. It is like it was time for the author to turn in a book for a deadline. In the end I was left not believing the story and not able to follow what had happened even after the Scooby doo type explanation at the end.

Read Critic Comments

The critics' comments have this one dead on. I only have one negative opinion in agreement with several other customer reviews. The narrator was annoying. In my opinion he expressed seemingly deep emotions with little or no feeling. However, I also got used to it due to the excellence of the story. Don't miss out!

Somewhat predictable.

What did you love best about Gone for Good?

My first Coben book -- and I will read more -- but there were some very predictable turns, which was annoying.

Did Jonathan Marosz do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes, but a bit monotone.

Great Read!

I found this book intriguing, everytime I had it figured out I had only solved part of the mystery. Leaves you wanting more at the end.

Good story bad storyteller

I enjoyed the story very much but the narrator is very monotone throughout the story it's almost like those old dry eyes commercials or the teacher from Ferris Buehlers day off, though the narrator never actually says Buehler I can almost hear it. There's also something playing in the background like another book being narrated at a lower tone and while the story itself it great these two issues really kill the quality of the whole thing.

Good story bad recording

At least 1/2 the book you hear talking in the background. Very annoying. Story was great.

It was OK..

Overall it kept me interested all the way through. The reader was a little mechanical at times.. A few twists to keep you in it through too the end.

great story, not so much the narrator

Would you try another book from Harlan Coben and/or Jonathan Marosz?

Coben, absolutely! Marosz -- not without lisetening VERY CAREFULLY to the preview, and being assured his cadence has changed from what he used for this book.

Any additional comments?

I thought the story fantastic: oodles of plot twists that kept my attention. The narrator -- well, he does "voices," and they're OK. BUT, when he's reading either narrative or 1st person (the book is partly in 1st and partly in 3rd person), EVERY sentence has the same cadence. This drove me to distraction. The only reason I finished is because the story was so interesting.

I gave "overall" three star only due to the narrator
