"Confusing and the ending is not enough"

Someone recommended this to me, and though I typically like this kind of story, I found this one very confusing and hard to follow. I agree with the other reviewer--there were parts that made me want to keep listening, and some parts that were so dull or confusing I'd find my mind wandering.

I found the end very disappointing. I really wanted a lot more information about the characters.

    The performances were all excellent.

I don't think I'd recommend this book, and I'm pretty generous usually with recommendations.

"BOOOO! what an absolutely huge disappointment!!!"
What disappointed you about Gods Without Men?

The ending just leaves all the story lines hanging and completely unresolved... this SUCKS BIG TIME!!!

What was most disappointing about Hari Kunzru’s story?

Again the unresolved ending... like the author just gave up.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

    none

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Gods Without Men?

    none

    Any additional comments?

    "Liked parts of it"

I waited a full week after I finished this to write a review. There were parts I really liked about the book.Mainly the storyline of the main characters. But I found the numerous characters and the flashbacks in time confusing and annoying. I think the story premise was very intersting, but at the end, (which I did not like), I was glad I was done with the book. However, I have found myself thinking about it during the week. Other reviewers have done a great job of stating the story, and I agree with a lot of the reviewers. Candidly, I'm from Arizona so I thought I'd be fascinated by the logistics of the locaton. I was not. Read at your own risk.

"The parts don't add up to a whole"
What did you like best about Gods Without Men? What did you like least?

There are some intriguing characters and subplots. But in the end, the ones I liked best were sort of left with little to do

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Am I getting this correctly? I think I am? Am I? I'd better listen to that first chapter again...

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Mix of voices and performances brings out the different characters

    "Disjointed"

It seemed the author was writing short stories and could not figure out how to pull them together. Too much irrelevance. I had great expectations and was disappointed.

    "So Cal Desert"

Being a desert ex-pat I have built in preference for this book. Born and raised in Southern California the local area has a special spot in my heart.
Many of the places mentioned in the book were places I have visited and even camped near. It's like reading Koontz who frequently weaves SoCal spots into his novels.
In regards to the story I did get lost on a few points but if I decide to read/listen to it again I am sure I would be able to tie up the loose ends. Being that I moved to Ohio and have shorter drives I don't get to listen to my books on tape while sitting in traffic.
Kunzru does a great job of transition from time span to time span. It it wasn't for his verbal markers the reader would be totally lost.
