    "Enthralling Historical Fiction"

This is a beautiful fictional story and the reading is excellent. The characters are all believable and only occasionally does the story border on the improbable. I assume that it is historically accurate in the depiction of life for upper and lower classes in a Dutch town in the 17th century. At no time did the story line drag and I was kept involved till the very last sentence.

    "Great Read"

This book absolutely takes you to another place and another time. The writer envelopes you into the story and the main character's world from beginning to end. It is kind of an anitclimactic book, but a very sweet read. I loved it and would definitely recommend it

Retired CFO, Army wife, Mom of five, Grandma of six, two sons who served in combat, love to read books that reflect my values and faith, love mysteries, historical, military stories, and books that don't waste my time . . . if it doesn't have an ending that was worth the wait, I'm not a happy camper.

"1664 Holland through an Artist Eyes"

Johannes Vermeer's painting of Girl with a Pearl Earring has always been a favorite of mine . . . and this historical fiction audio book lends depth and meaning to the era. You can almost see the streets of Delft, hear the sounds and feel the cobblestones under your feet. Entering the quiet, private world of an artist, Griet was envied and hated by the other servants . . . and even by Vermeer's wife and family. But (even though fiction) we are given a glimpse of what goes on in the mind of a painter . . . a slow, purposeful, deliberate painter, who cares for little else than his art . . . in many ways a weak man, a shallow man, a single-minded man, absent to his family . . . yet a genius . . . Tracy Chevalier has done a marvelous job of capturing both Griet and Vermeer. A short, though captivating listen.

"Transports you to another place and time"

After listening to this short read, I feel like I have been to 1600's Holland. The descriptions are vivid and unique - like poetry written in prose. The reader does an especially excellent job of capturing the main character, a Holland maid named Greit.

For me it is not the genre, but the skill of the writer to bring in a picture, an emotion, to make me laugh or cry, or fade into their words

"with the quiet gentleness of a painting"

learn about the life of the rich artist and his gifted muse...the writing feels like a meditation that is rich with the fabric of the past and colored with emotion felt deep and betrayal done wiht such disregard and misunderstanding...but ending in the beauty of the painting...Girl with a Pearl Earring.

    "A wonderful journey"

Tracy Chevalier has written a wonderful book that richly portrays the artist's studio as well as an insightful look behind the scenes into the social strata of 17th century Delft. Wonderfully narrated by Jenna Lamia.

    "Girl with a Pearl Earring"

This is a light weight romance novel in a historical setting. In enjoyed listening to the narrator's accent. The premise of who is the girl in the actual painting is fleshed-out into an enjoyable story that does not require a lot of deep thinking. Great escape literature.
