From a master of horror comes an apocalyptic showdown between the residents of a secluded, rural town and the deadly evil that confronts them wherever they turn.

Evil doesn’t die.

The cozy little town of Pine Deep buried the horrors of its past a long time ago. Thirty years have gone by since the darkness descended and the Black Harvest began, a time when a serial killer sheared a bloody swath through the quiet Pennsylvania village. The evil that once coursed through Pine Deep has been replaced by cheerful tourists getting ready to enjoy the country’s largest Halloween celebration in what is now called “The Spookiest Town in America.”

It just grows stronger.

But then—a month before Halloween—it begins. Unspeakably desecrated bodies. Inexplicable insanity. An ancient evil walks the streets, drawing in those who would fall to their own demons and seeking to shred the very soul of this rapidly fracturing community. Yes, the residents of Pine Deep have drawn together and faced a killer before. But this time, evil has many faces—and the lust and will to rule the earth. This struggle will be epic.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Maberry supplies plenty of chills, both earthbound and otherworldly, in this atmospheric horror novel…This is horror on a grand scale, reminiscent of Stephen King’s heftier works.” ( Publishers Weekly)

This book was refreshingly different. The author has done an excellent job of developing the characters and only eluding to the underlying monsters that have plagued this town. Only thing I didnt like was having the book end before the story was finished I can only hope there is a second installment to find out how the hero(s) come out.

Refreshingly different.

This book is a great companion to the Halloween holiday. The voice performance is spot on.

Great read around the holiday

I think this could be a good story, but I just could not enjoy it because the narration was abysmal. I could not wait for the book to end. This narrator may have a good "radio voice" but a storyteller he is not. It was painful to listen to him, but I used a credit for this book and was determined to finish it. I agree with some of the other reviewers, who said they believe this could be Maeberry's earlier works. I think he must have matured as a writer once he got to the Joe Ledger series because the writing style, word usage and imagery is vastly different. To put it simply, the language and story in the Ledger series flows - this series has a few more stutters.

HORRIBLE Narrator = diminished story

A great way to get the Halloween season started! Can’t wait to get through the series!

Keeps ya interested, though not scary like King or Kuntz novels. But I’m definitely getting book #2 to see what happens!

Good

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would. I love the whole woo-woo context. And Jonathan writes a pretty darn good story. Okay, he writes a GREAT story.

What other book might you compare Ghost Road Blues to and why?

It may be "somewhat" similar to the Kay Hooper Bishop stories with regard to the woo-woo.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The reason I hadn't listened to this series is that it's NOT narrated by Ray Porter. The reason I got sucked in is that there are so many Pine Deep shorts now WITH Mr. Porter that I had to read the beginning trilogy so I understood what was going on.

Any additional comments?

I'm glad (in the long run) that I didn't listen as they were written. Now I can listen to them all in order one after the other. THEN figure out where the shorts are supposed to go.

It's Taken Me Awhile .... but it IS Jonathan

Jonathan Maberry is one of my favorite authors. GRB was part creepy classic, complete with dark woods and shadowy cornfields, and part thriller with bad guys and guns - but it was just too dang long. There is a terrific build up to the action-packed showdown, where all factions in the story collide, but at that point it's too prolonged and the momentum is lost. I'm hesitant to finish the series -I really want to know what happens, but I'm afraid it might take to much time.

Excellent Creep Factor

a little slow to start but ended up being a really good read! I'm hoping the second book is a little more spooky though this is supposed to be a horror series so I'm hoping the horror shows up!!

good read!!

Great book I’m about to start the next one in the trilogy. Love J.M.s books.

So glad I researched about Pine Deep after its short appearance in one of John Ledger’s short stories. Maberry is a master of its craft, loved the way each character is introduced/developed while the arc of the narrative builds up. I can easily see this being turned into a movie script even before reading/listening parts 2 and 3. If you enjoy The Stand by Stephen King, then Pine Deep will be a treat.

What scares John Ledger? Pine Deep for sure
