Good characters and the performance was very entertaining. Predictable ending but with a few twists and turns to make the trip worthwhile.

"Absolutely terrible. A waste of time and money."

The story was so silly. I can't believe I finished listening. I usually like her books but this was not worth a penny.

    "A great classic from Jennifer!"

Jennifer Crusie is one of my favorite authors. Her witty style always makes me laugh, and even though this story is clearly written before cell phones it is timeless. I enjoyed the narrator a lot. She understands quick pace of Crusie's dialogue...and has a distinct voice for each character.

    Story
"I only wish it was longer. . ."

I love Jennifer Crusie's novels, I just hate how short they are. Prior to getting into my critique of the story I want to address Stauffer's narration. This is the first time I have heard her narrate and within the first 15 seconds I was convinced she would butcher nit, her voice sounded scratchy and very young, in the next thirty seconds she had me hooked and kept me on the line the whole time. She really did a good job treading the humor in this book, she was able to deliver every punch line, I was very impressed.

I really connected with the characters in this novel. I don't know any other authors who can imbue every single person, as well as the animals, with depth, personality and wit (yes, even the dogs were witty) in 6 hours. Crusie is really very gifted. At one point one of the characters mentioned typing on a type writer and that really jarred me, that is how effortless this story is I didn't even realize it wasn't immediately contemporary. This is a wonderful story, and so so sweet, I wish I could listen to it for the first time again.

"Other stories by this author are better"

This book is fine, but when I was taking walks and listening on my phone I could get distracted by something I saw and my attention would wander. Not typical for me to have to back up so often because a book isn't keeping my attention focused... It's a cute enough story, but isn't quite as good as most by Jennifer Crusie. If you purchase this book, and it's your first Jennifer Crusie, please give her another chance.

    "Fun, witty, light listen"

Both author and narrator combine to make an entertaining listen. Ms. Cruise does a great job with her characters and making them enjoyable to get to know. Her characters always have an affinity for animals, what's not to love?

    Story
"Save your money, pass on this one."
This book wasn???t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I really like Jennifer Crusie (as does my husband). The reader completely ruined any possible story there was. She was definitely not the right reader for this book, or even this category. She would do fine with children's books. She sounded like a 12 year old. It was too awful to listen to the story with the voice of a child. My husband could only listen to about 5 minutes, then had to call it quits.

    Save yourself the expense.

What could Jennifer Crusie have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Different reader.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Elenna Stauffer?

Anna Field, Sandra Burr, anyone with an adult voice.

    "Great story, loved the characters"

I had read the printed version, and loved it. It's a great story, funny, sexy (explicit), exciting, a "who-dunnit." Unfortunately the audio version has the wrong narrator. She is too young, for ALL the characters. There were bad choices on accent, character, voice timbre. Why does the sister with money sound like she's from The Mob, why does one villain squeak? The story is good enough that I still listen to it in spite of the narrator being annoying.
