Penniless, sleeping rough, Georgia is soon introduced to the sleazy Soho world of brassy strippers, sweat shops, camaraderie, and hardship. Fired by a fierce ambition, blessed with an extraordinary voice, her long struggle for fame and fortune begins. But even when she reaches the top, she finds that the scars of the past can open up to ruin her.

This is the second one I've listened to, by this lovely woman. Totally engaging! Vibrant descriptions of 1960's London - so good I thought I'd lived it myself. A bit predictable in places, but the main character is so lovable, I easily over looked it. Can't wait to start in on the next one.
very good read, one of my first audio books and i enjoyed every minute so much so that I got another book from the same Author.
"A wonderful listen.."
Listening to Georgia was wonderful as the story kept evolving. Lots of splendid details.
The way that it was a listen that just wanting you to keep on listening. Never a dull moment during the story.
It is difficult to choose a favorite scene but I did like hearing about the beginning of Georgias singing career and her interaction with the band.
I was moved by many situations in the book. It is simply a very good story and I can highly recommend it.
I loved the narration and this story ought to be made into a TV serial. It would be an instant hit :-)
having read Lesley Pearce books before they do become a little predictable but still enjoyed this book and her description of characters brings them alive. well worth listening to.
"Thank Gawd !!!"
If this book had ended about 2 hours after it had started!
the majority of them
When the words 'the end' were read i said "Thank Gawd" my ears were almost bleeding,The first third of this book weren't to bad and i was quite enjoying it, then it went on and on and on and on to the point where it was obvious the writer was struggling to fill the pages with anything worth listening to.
Yes, It is one of Lesley Pearse's excellent books that draw the listener into the story
the character and how she copes with the hateful way she and other children are treated by one nun but still has compassion for younger children.
Sister Mary cares for Georgia after the Sister Agnes had made Georgia get into a scalding bath.
Love overcomes all hate
Great book can't wait for more
Enjoyed it very much hours of good listening so all I can say very very very good as all Lesley peares books are
Well read, although the story is predictable it is told so well you overlook that. I do love how she describes certain things and people.
"Another winner from Lesley Pearse!"
Heart-breaking, exciting, gripping!!
Actually, they are ALL well written.
From the love and hope I had for the main character Gearogia, to the loathing I developed for Brian Andersom.... all the characters made me feel something - which means they gotta be well written to have that reaction!!
This is the first book I have listened to with this reader.... her accents were a little strained at times, and once during a conversation between Georgia and Max, I noticed that she read something in the wrong accent, but overall, I rated her performance a 4!
I certainly has not put me off listening to another book by her.
It's an emotional roller-coaster.... like so many of her other books.
Well worth the listen. I do like Ms Pearse's stories!
The narrators voice is so relaxing ..
When Georgia is getting her termination is was heart rending ..
Hours upon hours of well read , fast moving story telling .. Well worth purchasing ..
This has a great story line and I could not switch off. What an amazing and inspirational story.
I was hooked.
