When assisted suicide and cosmetics collide...
Gadzooks! A Comically Quirky Audio Book by Adele Park takes a lighter look at end-of-life situations. In the eyes of Nadine, a polygamist and serial bride, nudging her husbands into heaven is a testament to love. Even Nancy Neptune, a notorious shock jock, is gobsmacked by Nadine's so-called Celestial Send-Offs. Things go to hell in a hand basket when Nadine offs the wrong guy and is charged with assisted suicide. Meanwhile, Blue McKenna has problems of her own. A power outage has leveled Blue's medical marijuana dispensary. Scottie Sphincter, lead singer of a band called The Rectal Surgeons, is fingered as a suspect. Blue makes an unusual discovery as she works to unmask the inscrutable Sphincter. Using witty narratives, a cast of nine characters transport listeners to Navel, Utah, a place where voyages to the afterlife are done with God Speed. Cosmic mirth and hilarity abound in Gadzooks! A Comically Quirky Audio Book.
The full list of narrators includes: Garry Morris, Andra Harbold, Lesley Mendenhall, Abby Elvidge, Rhett Guter, Melissa Sandberg, Kent Hayes, Jack de Golia, and Steve Campbell.

I didn't want ths audiobook to end. The characters are so hysterical and well developed by the author. It is out of the box comical, intriguing experience listen to this book. I hope the author is working on the next one!
I am at that half a century mark in years. I enjoy audiobooks, cats, rats and most days my family, not necessarily in that order!lol
Narrated brilliantly by Garry Morris, Andra Harbold, Lesley Mendenhall, Rhett Guter, Melissa Sandberg, Jack de Golia, Abby Elvidge, Kent Hayes,This book is a hoot!
There are so many intertwining stories that you just need to take it n faith and sit back and enjoy the show.We have assisted suicide send offs, serial polygamy, pot smoking, drug dealing, lesbians, etc...all within the FLDS community.Too funny!

Be prepared to LYAO. Think you've got problems? Listen to this one! Having a down week? Listen to this one! Don't want strangers to hear you choking on suppressed laughter? DON'T listen to this one! The publisher's summary will give you some clues, but you have simply GOT to hear this for yourself. The writer does an excellent job, or the audio performers wouldn't be able to enjoy themselves so much. And the performances ADD to the general hilarity!
Wholehearted thanks to AudioBook Blast for introducing this book to me!
her stories remind me of a modern day pride and prejudice. pushing the limits just a little and letting us peak into the lives of a different culture
The story is just so unexpected and people so quirky and yet you can just imagine them being real people and this their real lives. A great mix of madness, weirdness and endearing charm
didn't have one - I liked them all and disliked them all - they were all believable in their really oddball ways and they all hit a note
It is difficult to imagine what's inside this book even though the description is quite a good representation - if you like quirky, oddball, endearing people...you should enjoy this book. I thoroughly did - I didn't cease being charmed by the unexpected, unpredictable activities, beliefs, thoughts, actions and everything that all the characters stories involved. I really liked this book - kept smiling, giggling, groaning and even being moved to a teary eye or two by the stories. I was gifted a copy for review but I would happily pay for another of this writer's works - enjoyed, does not quite say enough, but I did really enjoy this

I think so, though it would depend on the friend. Not everyone would appreciate the humor in this book. I found it quite funny, but not sure some of my straighter laced family members would.
The performers were great. The voices and different characters really gave the story life!
I laughed out loud too many times to count.
When I first started this book, I wasn't sure about it. That being said, after the first 15 minutes or so I was hooked.
Rabid Listener/Reader and Shopper!
Narration - Garry Morris, Andra Harbold, Lesley Mendenhall, Rhett Guter, Melissa Sandberg, Jack de Golia, Abby Elvidge, Kent Hayes. - Kick Ass!!! I couldn't tell you which one narrated which character, but they were all terrific!
What a funny, irreverent, saucy little book. I had NO IDEA what this book was about before I started it, but It only took a short time and I was on board. It's fun, smart and filled with both sophisticated AND toilet humor!
I swear there's at least a dozen story lines running through it all told from 8 different POV's including a dead guy! I chuckled quite a bit! Really enjoyed it!

I got a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review and I had no idea what to expect. I've been doing a lot of these to try and expand my horizons on the types of books i listen too and it has worked.
When i started this one i wasn't sure about it, but before i knew it i was hooked and the craziness of the story and wanted to find out what happened. I enjoyed that there was a full cast of characters as well as narrators for the story as it really adds a lot to the experience.
I will definitely look for more like this.
I'm a pop culture columnist for Gannett, and I spend all my waking moments listening to books. (I'm also Batman, but shhh.)
I might, but I'm especially looking forward to listening to the other productions by Adele Park. The production value is incredible.
I enjoyed how the story – being set in the Fundamental Latter Day Saint world – was rife with topics we don't equate to the FLDS world, like marijuana, porn, lesbian and gay characters, etc. It made it really, really funny.
Nancy Neptune is hands-down my favorite character in the story.
It definitely made me laugh!
I think people from Utah – especially Southern Utah – will particularly love this story. It's fun to imagine all the sister wives I see in Wal-Mart every day having these secret adventures to Las Vegas to sell skin cream and then off to Colorado to do a drug run.
Gadzooks! is a laugh riot. Nadine, the much married and widowed resident of Navel Utah, is accused of assisting her latest husband in assisted suicide. We are reunited with shock jock Nancy Neptune who returns to Navel to help out her old friend. We also meet up with Blue McKenna, her twin sister Moon McKenna and Randall Smoot. Throw in a runaway polygamist teen bride to be and you have the makings of a laughing good time.
Adele Park hits another one out of the ball park. With her Quirky audio series, we meet the wacky residents and visitors to the town of Navel, Utah. Using a radio show style of a different narrator for each character there is never a dull moment here. I would highly recommend this book along with its predecessors Jitters! and Yikes!. Listening to all of these books will keep you laughing for days!
"Rewarding once you get into it"
It took a while to get into this audio book, the reading style is initially a little dry which made it difficult for me to engage with the story. Once I had got in a few chapters it blossomed into a nice quirky story which ended a little suddenly but well worth the listen
"Escape from reality, Utah style."
I was pointed in the direction of this book by a friend who recommended it highly.
After visiting Utah, and seeing first hand some of the book's settings I was intrigued to hear this story. It is certainly left field, actually it might not make the field at all !! If the listener is prepared for something completely different, this will certainly fit the bill.
I will listen again to see if I missed anything from the first reading, but the "heavenly overviews" always struck me because of the idea of someone "up there" watching us go about life.If such a place exists, surely the overcrowding would be horrendous !
As a non-american, most of the accents merge and it adds to the scene of being in Utah.
They all sound excellent to me, the "New York" accent did seem out of place, but maybe she moved to Utah.Or was she abducted !!!
I actually listened to it in two sittings. It would have been one but something cropped up to cause me to having to pause the proceedings. But the story does make one want to go to the end to find out what happens.
This is a very good book, with insight to a situation that most of us find alien. We have a saying that goes "only in America", but from personal experience I can vouch that something akin to this situation does exist. Yet more proof that "Truth is stranger than fiction", so I would say listen and forget "normal" rules and attitudes.
