Publisher's Summary

Frightful, the peregrine falcon who first appeared in My Side of the Mountain, is back. Her amazing journey through life continues in the face of many rousing wildlife adventures. Will she survive the wilderness, even though she was raised by a human? When an old friend rescues her from captors, Frightful soars into the unfamiliar woodlands and searches for home. Before finding her mountain, she adopts a nest of motherless peregrine chicks. But construction crews, bird poachers, and even a bald eagle threaten her new family. Frightful needs help from Sam Gribley, the human who raised her. Kids and parents alike will be captivated by this action-packed continuation of Sam and Frightful’s journey.

Acclaimed author Jean Craighead George has won a Newbery Medal. With Jeff Woodman's splendid rendition, you feel the wind blow through your hair as Frightful glides above the hemlock trees.

    "A Welcome Return to Frightful"

Frightful's Mountain is a satisfying end to this trilogy that I enjoyed so much more than the second book in the series (On the Far Side of the Mountain), mainly because it's a welcome return to the writing style of the first book (My Side of the Mountain), with the engaging addition that much of it is from Frightful's viewpoint. Yes, it's an anthropomorphized view, but it still makes for a gratifying and rewarding read. I also had the added benefit of learning that peregrine falcon chicks are called eyases and a male peregrine falcon is called a tiercel!

"Not As Good As the First and Second Ones"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, but in doing so it would defeat the purpose of the novel as a whole. For, I would change the overall dominate talk about Frightful and her journeys. After awhile I really became tired of listening to it, but of course the novel is titled "Frightful's Mountain" so.

Has Frightful's Mountain turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yes and no. Because of how much I love this novel series I will continue reading novels similar to it. However, now I know going forward that some novels might be through an animal or animals perspectives. Which overall was not very interesting to me.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Definitely the ending when Frightful came back to Sam. I just adored that. For they started off together and now they're remaining together. It was so beautiful and heartwarming.

Do you think Frightful's Mountain needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Not really. The series is fine how it ended anything else would simply take away from the overall meaning of it.

    Any additional comments?

    None really.

    "A very nice perspective "

I loved learning about falcons and how they go about their life. This book has a lot of closure, happy moments, and scares. I recommend it whole heartedly. It is my favorite book of my favorite series.
