Joe Cantrell, owner of the Gansett Island Ferry Company, has been in love with Janey McCarthy for as long as he can remember. At the same time, Janey has been dating or engaged to doctor-in-training David Lawrence. When things go horribly wrong between David and Janey, she calls her "fifth brother" Joe, one of the few people in her close circle who lives on the mainland. Janey decides a few days with Joe is just what she needs before she goes home to the island to face her parents and family with the news of her broken engagement.
It was bad enough for Joe loving Janey from afar, but having her in his house is pure torture. Will he take advantage of this opportunity to show her what they could have together? And what will Joe’s best friend and Janey’s protective older brother Mac have to say about it?

Way too long for the story, I did not think this book would ever end,.
No. I have not rated many books below 3 stars.
There was not enough distinction in voice between the characters and the whispered voice was annoying.
This book is a welcome addition to the Gansett Island series and Joe and Jenny every bit as engaging as characters introduced in the previous books. I particularly enjoyed the fact that while this listen focuses on Joe and Jenny it also includes the ongoing story of other characters in the series. Unfortunately the narration is just as bad as in the previous books.
I don't think I would try another book from these authors. The story was nice, although predictable, but the sex scenes were way too detailed and unnecessary.
I like romance books but without all the detailed sex and a little bit of an unexpected story line.
I would cut the detailed sex scenes.
Say something about yourself!
I love a love story and a series that allows you to get to know a number of the characters.
The challenges and events the main characters dealt with and updates on other characters.
Lacks emotion and she does not differentiate the characters. She simply reads aloud. A disaster might be happening but you wouldn't know from the narrators voice.
I wouldn't rename.
It is the story spun by Marie Force that brings me back to the series. I do wish she would choose a different narrator.
This is a very sweet love story with a predictable but happy ending.
way too slow
The narrator has a nice voice but she reads way too slowly. I love the Audible app's Narration Speed feature for books like this. I listened to this one at 1.5x and it was about right.
Overall... 4 star
Performance.... 4.5 star
Story... 4 star
I liked it. I liked it a lot. Janey was off-island when her heart was shattered, so she called the nearest friendly face, Joe. The problem is that Joe's been in love with her for years and Janey has just chosen not to see it.
There is a lot coming into play in this book. Janey is a McCarthy...the only girl in the family. Joe and her big brother Mac have been friends for years. Mac knows about Joe's feelings for her and worries that Joe is going to get his heart broken. I liked that aspect of it. Normally in this type of book, there would simply be the older brother worried about his sister. While there was definitely that too, I got the feeling that Mac was really more worried about his friend's fragile heart. Not a normal story line twist for the brother of the heroine.
Janey has given up a lot by being with her boyfriend for the last thirteen years, so it was fitting that she was a little leery about immediately throwing her heart to someone else. I felt that was realistic and honest, although I'll admit, my heart kept breaking over and over for Joe...as she dealt with her indecision. I didn't know how the story was ever goign to work out, but loved the way that Marie Force wrote it.
Another great book in the series. I'm ready to see more of the other brothers.
Yes because they are fun stories but i would warn them about the terrible narration. She has no expression, it is even difficult to tell which are male and which are female voices.
I have been far more pleased by Holly's narration in other books, but her voice was so monotone in this recording, it was putting me to sleep. I took breaks with other books in order to complete the story. This seriously needs re-recording.
