Publisher's summary

Christopher Moore, much beloved scrivener and peerless literary jester, now takes on no less than the legendary Bard himself (with the utmost humility and respect) with a twisted and insanely funny tale of a moronic monarch and his deceitful daughters, as seen through the eyes of a man wearing a codpiece and bells on his head.

Pocket has been Lear's cherished fool for years. So naturally Pocket is at his brainless, elderly liege's side when Lear demands that his kids swear to him their undying love and devotion. Of course Goneril and Regan are only too happy to brownnose Dad. But Cordelia believes that her father's request is kind of...well...stupid, and her blunt honesty ends up costing her her rightful share of the kingdom and earns her a banishment to boot.

Well now the bangers and mash have really hit the fan. And the only person who can possibly make things right . . . is Pocket. Now he's going to have do some very fancy maneuvering: cast some spells, start a war or two - the usual stuff - to get Cordelia back into Daddy Lear's good graces, to derail the fiendish power plays of Cordelia's twisted sisters, and to shag every lusciously shaggable wench who's amenable to shagging along the way.

Pocket may be a fool...but he's definitely not an idiot.

Oh fuckstockings!

I love this book, I've listened to it multiple times and it never stops being funny, clever, and witty. The narrator is amazing. I imagine Pocket as the black adder ala Rowan Atkinson. Warning...don't listen with kids or with those of tender ear as there is much cursing and buggery to be had. Enjoy.

Loved the Story and the Narration

Would you consider the audio edition of Fool to be better than the print version?

Yes. The narrator added to the character. There is also an interview with the author at the end of the book where he went over his thoughts and writing process for this book. It was entertaining as well.

What did you like best about this story?

I haven't read King Lear, but it was obvious that the author did a lot of research on Shakespeare when writing this book. It was whitty and entertaining. It was a bit vulgar for me though.

What does Euan Morton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Sarcastic attitude, catch phrase, British accent.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

This is now my favorite of Christopher Moore's books.

I can never get enough of Christopher Moore!

Loved it!! Sorry can't really write a great inspiring review today. I'm oa flight and they keep interrupting me with silly safety instructions in case of a water landing...flying from PDX-MCO...very slight chance of a water landing. Tossers, all of them.

Hilarious retelling of King Lear

Moore aimed to write a British comic novel, and he hit that target and them some. The writing is funny often hilarious, laugh out loud in the car by yourself. Euan Morton handles the material very well. Not suitable for younger ears or those with delicate sensibilities, but good fun!
