Publisher's summary

Flight is the hilarious and tragic story of an orphaned Indian boy - "Zits" - who travels back and forth through time in a charged search for his true identity. With powerful, swift prose, Flight follows the troubled teenager as he learns that violence is not the answer.

The journey begins as he's about to commit a massive act of violence. At the moment of decision, he finds himself shot back through time to awaken in the body of an FBI agent during the civil-rights era. It's only the first stop. He continues through time to inhabit the body of an Indian child during the battle at Little Bighorn and then rides with an 1800s Indian tracker before materializing as an airline pilot jetting through the skies today.

During these furious travels, his refrain is: "Who's to judge?" and "I don't understand humans." When he returns to his own life, he is transformed by all he's seen.

Critic reviews

"Captivating...one quickly surrenders to Zits' voice, which elegantly mixes free-floating young adult cynicism with a charged, idiosyncratic view of American history. Alexie plunges the book into bracing depths." ( Publishers Weekly)

Robert

This book made [me sad], in a good way. Upon finishing it I immediately checked for other audiobooks but there weren't any. Sigh.

Mixed ideas about what it is your trying to say

If your audience consists of children with backgrounds on these matters-- Americans are way more oppressed, in many was I question the Authorities of each City District.

Brilliant

I am a longtime Sherman Alexie fan and this book does not disappoint....he has his finger on the pulse of the cultural divide and I alternated between giggles and tears.

After hearing Adam Beach's superb narration I simply cannot imagine another voice telling this tale. Loved loved loved it

Great ending

There are a couple reasons why I only give this book 3 stars. I ended up not being a huge fan of the narrator. The book also started out very slowly. However, by about the middle of the book, it really started to pick up. And I do have to admit that I really liked the ending. A lot.

Stunning.

Yet another book I had no idea about but started just to see. An adventurous exploration of a good for nothing teen discovering that there is more to life than what people objectify him to. The ending brought me to tears and I feel warm and fuzzy as I'm sure the teen feels in the end as well. Highly recommend.

Soar Above the Rest

Great story of a native american youth facing difficult times only to view life through another persons persepctive and ultimately chose to rise above his traumatized past to become a new found youth in today's society. I was a bit confused with the timeline of events until the author redirected back to the first person story telling which made the book for an excellent read.

I was ready for a book with hope. It was glad it wasn't too sappy.
