"Another of Phillips' brilliant romantic romps, deftly combining laughter and love with real women's issues and served up with a sophisticated flair. Creative plotting adds sparkle, and entertaining, well-drawn secondary characters round out the novel, but it is the growing, healing relationship between the protagonists and how they finally form a family that touches the heartstrings and makes this contemporary romance an unforgettable read. Freelance writer looking for inspiration and escape in witty tales and perplexing mysteries
At the verge of possibly having our first female president, this book sparked questions about personal lives and privacy. Romanticizing adoption, especially of older children, is concerning, but all in all it was a delightful book.
Pretty cool. Totally different take on a love story. Loved the look at a blended families and complicated relationships.
All business but contemporary fun!
Cute read, as SEP's usual books. I was surprised to find that the exaggerated elements of the story are not in the presidential aspects of the first lady's life; rather in what happens next: meeting a tall, scruffy, handsome man and two orphan kids and joining them in a road trip... :) still cute.
Deciding to adopt Lucy & Button
She is absolutely perfect. One of the best performers for Susan Elizabeth Phillips books.
When the First Lady decided to adopt the 2 orphaned children
I don't generally review books but I decided to make this an exception as I don't think I have ever enjoyed a story this much (and I have read & listened to very many). The characters were so real & likable. When Neelie told Lucy that she would adopt her & her baby sister it left me in tears. Next on my schedule is "The Great Escape"! Can't wait to read about Lucy's antics. She is so likable!!! Susan Elizabeth Phillips books never disappoint & leave me happy.
Moved to a place where I don't know anyone and I am stuck in a rut. Any suggestions on how to get out??
Haven't read the book.
Humerous, strong females.
The grandfather debating with his adopted granddaughter
Touching and humerous
It was a nice story with fun to read characters. I had a good time reading it
She was perfect as always
I have read several of the books by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, including the Chicago Stars series, and I have not once been disappointed with her books. They are light reading and a nice escape from every day life. First Lady was a great listen with some enjoyable twists and turns. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
I believe that Anna Fields was one of the best narrators in the business and the audio book community lost a great performer with her death.
Five stars all the way for this audio book.
I loved this book, and was dissapointed when it ended. The story line is great, the dialouge between the characters is realistic, and the book is a perfect mix of laugh-out-loud funny and tear-jerker sad. The narraration is, as always, wonderful. Anna Fields was one of the best. I almost didn't listen to this book based on some of the reviews, but am so glad I did. Will definately be downloading Teddy's story and Lucy's too when it is available.
