Charlie McGee inherited pyrokinetic powers from her parents, who had been given a low-grade hallucinogen called "Lot Six" while at college. Now the government is trying to capture young Charlie and harness her powerful firestarting skills as a weapon.

I have read every King book...many of them 2 or 3 or even more times. Just to savor every little nuance. But what I'm finding with the audio books is there almost another level of understanding, of being immersed into the story. It was like reading/hearing it for the first time....again. Firestarter was a great listen.
This audio book is excelent! No slow spots no fillers good all the way through, and narrated very well.
I have been listening to books on tape for over 20 years. Starting with audio tapes, then CD's and now downloads.
As a Stephen King fan I love to listen to his books. Even though I am a member of the Los Angeles Library and can download books for free I cannot find enough of the books I love, like Mr. King. I was not disappointed in this book. This book is a Classic King with a great main character and great Bad guy. The performance was also very good. I believe this is one of his top ten written stories.
Dennis Boutsikaris does a great job narrating this book.
When the Shop catches up with Charlie and Andy at the Manders farm.
Dennis Boutsikaris does a good job expressing the emotions of the characters.
While I would have loved to listen to this book in one sitting the length makes it difficult unless you are taking a long car ride (or flight).
yes I enjoyed the layout of the story and the climax
I like that It reminded me just how good King was in his prime.
yes just fine
I think it is a movie
When Charlie first uses her powers from anger
Great book and still worth a listen. I just found that I liked better when I read it.
Say something about yourself!
King's 1981 novel is better than I remembered. Like most King books, it lends itself to audio very well and Boutsikaris is a good choice as narrator. He gives the novel a tenderness that amplifies the father/daughter relationship over the din of all the carnage Charlie unleashes.
I've listened to a good number of King novels and this is one of the best audiobooks of his. Dennis Boutsikaris does a great job bringing you in and immersing you in the story.
But the story stopped too soon, not enough at the end.
There were some really good parts. I was enjoying this until the end, when I was disappointed that something bad happened to a good guy. I was happy for another good guy, but it could have been better. (Question to author: What is wrong with happy endings?) Technically this was happy, but not happy enough.
I feel like the author grew tired and stopped too soon. There could have been so much more going into the future. Yes, you could call this an ending, but just barely. It needed more.
Most of the story is either being on the run or being held prisoner by The Shop. The Shop is a secret U.S. government organization doing scientific research - injecting citizens with experimental drugs. The Shop has no problem using hit men. Charlie is seven years old and can throw fire as a weapon using only her mind.
The narrator Dennis Boutsikaris was very good.
Genre: sci-fi suspense thriller.
Ending: Bad for most bad guys.
Scientist, artisan, anachronism
Firestarter had an affect on me, and that was – meh.
It’s three star, that means ok. and that's what this is- just ok. Steve is a gifted author, and i have a lot of his work, but this felt flat to me. It is kinda dull, kinda drab. I found myself asking for it to hurry up and end already. This is the kind of scenario that would sum up the book for me: someone hearing some thing making a sound in a bedroom dresser and then checking drawer one – its not there; drawer two – its not there; drawer three, drawer four, drawer five, drawer six, drawer seven, drawer eight… ahhhh! Just jump out already...
there is no depth of dialog or compelling prose that typically separates the books from the movies. This is just a bitchin sci-fi story. I hate to say it but I think this would be a better movie than a book.
My other King ratings: Firestarter- 3; insomnia- 3; gunslinger (dark tower 1)- 5; dark tower two- 4, dark tower three- 4; the regulators- 5; desperation- 4; UR- 3 (barely); just after sunset- 3 (overall, but there were a couple of exceptions for the better); cell- 4/5; graveyard shift- 4; grey matter- 4; LT’s theory- 3 (barely); breathing method-3; I shudder at your touch (one story in collection of shorts)- 5; Mcsweeny’s Mammoth… (one story in collection of shorts)- 3.
