Charlie McGee inherited pyrokinetic powers from her parents, who had been given a low-grade hallucinogen called "Lot Six" while at college. Now the government is trying to capture young Charlie and harness her powerful firestarting skills as a weapon.

I have read every King book...many of them 2 or 3 or even more times. Just to savor every little nuance. But what I'm finding with the audio books is there almost another level of understanding, of being immersed into the story. It was like reading/hearing it for the first time....again. Firestarter was a great listen.
This audio book is excelent! No slow spots no fillers good all the way through, and narrated very well.
I have been listening to books on tape for over 20 years. Starting with audio tapes, then CD's and now downloads.
As a Stephen King fan I love to listen to his books. Even though I am a member of the Los Angeles Library and can download books for free I cannot find enough of the books I love, like Mr. King. I was not disappointed in this book. This book is a Classic King with a great main character and great Bad guy. The performance was also very good. I believe this is one of his top ten written stories.
Dennis Boutsikaris does a great job narrating this book.
When the Shop catches up with Charlie and Andy at the Manders farm.
Dennis Boutsikaris does a good job expressing the emotions of the characters.
While I would have loved to listen to this book in one sitting the length makes it difficult unless you are taking a long car ride (or flight).
Just a stupid truck driver.
Sorry, I just never could get into this book. The narrator wasn't the best, and the book really went downhill after the girl burned down the farm. It was a struggle to finish.
I write of Stephen King's mastery of American fictional genres. Like all brilliant artists, King has shaped his works based on the marble of perhaps a dozen arbitrary categorizations such as horror, science fiction, westerns, detective, suspense, etc.
He has transcended any categorization as is evidenced in The Firestarter. It contains elements of all the proceedings examples in the proceeding paragraph.
The joy of listening to one of his novels is as simple as admiring the song of a bird or the deepest darkness shining forth stars. I have read over twenty of his novels and have found them consistently delightful. King is truly a national treasure.
Good Stephen King
Return to the Farm
Not quit what I remember from reading it years ago but a lot has changed and I understand I can't call BS because I (and SK) know better Now.
Would love to see it rewritten with modern time knowledge.
Absolutely worth your time, especially for those who enjoy the Bachman books. I've read this one at least five times, and I've only had it for about a year. The book does lack the sort of poetic style I find prevalent (and enjoyable) in the Bachman books, it more than makes up for it by presenting a believable, gritty, and a more or less unforgiving world.
This constantly underlines how high the stakes are in this story, it tells you with utter certainty that the protagonists may not succeed, that the entire point of the story, as is the case with many of the Bachman books, may be that sometimes the bad guys win.
If you're a King, or just interested in his work, this one, as well as Salem's Lot would be an excellent place to start.
One of Stephen king's best works. I was totally blown away by the amazing story told about a girl and the close relationship she has with her father. Narrater's overall tone was totally on point. In every way possible, this amazing story will fail to disappoint. What are you waiting for? Purchase it already.
