Publisher's summary

Sophie Rose, a tough and determined newspaper reporter, is the daughter of Bobby Rose, a suave, charming, and handsome gentleman who also happens to be a notorious big-time thief sought by every law-enforcement agency in the country. When the major Chicago daily where she works insists she write an expose about her roguish father, Sophie refuses, quits her job, and goes to work at a small newspaper. Far from her onetime high-powered crime beat, she now covers local personalities such as the quirky winner of several area 5K runs whose trademark is goofy red socks.

Those red socks - with Sophie's business card neatly tucked inside - are practically all that's found after runner William Harrington's shredded corpse turns up in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, the victim of a mysteriously dramatic death by polar bear. With an unerring nose for a good story, Sophie heads north to Alaska.

What she doesn't realize is that her father's infamous reputation has spread even to the far reaches of Prudhoe Bay. Sophie's assigned a bodyguard - Jack MacAlister, a sexy FBI agent who grudgingly takes the assignment while recovering from an on-duty injury. But they will soon be fighting more than growing passion.

Great Story

This was another great Story by Julie Garwood. I loved Sophie and Jack.

Rebecca Lowman was such a good narrator. I honestly loved her character voices!

A very good listen

I enjoyed this book very much. The narrator did a great job and I liked Sophie's overall outlook on life. It was a bit slow in spots, but I never had the urge to fast forward - I toughed it out and am glad I did. Enjoyed all the characters very much and the plot of the story kept me interested and wondering to the end. Definitely give it a listen.

Motionless

The narrator could have read with more emotion. The narrative was a bit blah and motionless. I had to keep rewinding because I would zone out or fall asleep while listening to the story. The book was very good, the storyline kept me interested and looking forward to the next book in the series.

A very good listen

Narrator was great to listen to. Story had some comical moments, and kept me in suspense during a long drive. Couple of twists. Worth listening to.

Mystery, Action, Discovery, and Finally Love

A reporter, an F.B.I. man and a murder investigation. A good story with a lot of twist and turns. I have listened to this book at least 6 times and each time I enjoy it as much as I did the first time I listened to it. When I am in between books and just want a good story with well developed characters, smart and compassionate, I go to this book. Well worth the credit.

Great Book!

Really, really well done. Loved this book. Lead is smart (seems rare in mystery romance genre). Plot was good. The toying between Sophie and Jack just seemed more realistic than so many others. From what I’ve read in other reviews, this may be one of steamier of Garwood’s books. I thought it was very well done. Not too descriptive, but exciting nonetheless. Enjoy! It’s a good one!

Amazing book!!

I read the book when I was a young teenager and hearing it being read having found it years later as an adult, gave the book an entirely new setting. It’s better than I remember and the narrator really gave life to the book.

3 ½ stars. A pleasant way to pass the time.

There were a couple things I could quibble about, but not a major problem.

Sophie has a clue about a murder. If the bad guys had just kept quiet and bided their time, she would never discover anything and they would get away with it. But because they tried to kill Sophie more than once, she and her FBI friends were able to learn things. That seemed too easy. I would have preferred some interesting clues along the way.

And then we have the formulaic separation which could have been done better. They are falling in lust/love and then Sophie breaks it off, which was not consistent with her feelings.

But, I still enjoyed the story.
