Publisher's summary

Internationally best-selling author Chuck Palahniuk's uproarious and irreverent debut novel Fight Club was transformed into an Academy Award-nominated film starring Edward Norton and Brad Pitt.

When a listless office employee (the narrator) meets Tyler Durden, his life begins to take on a strange new dimension. Together they form Fight Club - a secretive underground group sponsoring bloody bare-knuckle boxing matches staged in seedy alleys, vacant warehouses, and dive-bar basements. Fight Club lets ordinary men vent their suppressed rage, and it quickly develops a fanatical following. Before long it takes on all the trappings of a quasi-religious cult, replete with a devastating ideological mission to accomplish.

A masterpiece of raw violence and black humor, this exciting novel challenges listeners to see the world through a new - and quite possibly deranged - set of eyes. Acclaimed narrator Jim Colby brings out the dark satire in this tale of modern alienation.

1st rule is...

Truly enjoyed the audio version of the book. There are as many if not more nuances in the book as there are in the movie.

Not Your Typical Story

This is not a heroic story, a sweeping romance, or a dystopian epic. It is, however, great social commentary. The story is engaging and thought provoking, and the characters showcase all that can be tragic and traumatic about human existence. The story is a whirlwind of an adventure as you explore the mind of a very troubled man. While very funny at times and very tragic at others, Fight Club does not fall to deliver several hard hits.

The first rule of Fight Club is, you must listen..

...to Fight Club. This book has had such a powerful cultural impact. While some of Palahniuk's other books feel dated Fight Club doesn't.

Shocked at how similar book and movie script are

The book and movie are nearly identical, almost word for word. It is pretty crazy

Great book, great narrator

I’m often told that the movie is better than the book, but I preferred the book. I found it easier to connect with the themes than I did with the movie.

The movie was pretty faithful to the book though the endings are different. I personally preferred the book’s ending

Any fan of the film

I've been meaning to read this book for over 10 years but as a huge fan of the film for over 20 years now I was apprehensive... Will it not be as good, or be so much better that the film will become unwatchable?

No spoilers. I'll say that I really enjoyed it, and love that the majority of the most iconic lines in the film were directly from the book, and several that were changed just a bit. The stories are mostly the same however the film did move some things around and have different characters doing some things. The most impressive thing I think, is that the film really did capute the feeling and style of the book, so reading/listening to it feels much like watching the film. Oh, some great lines and scenes in the film are snippets of the book and in the film some lines are hard to understand fully, so now I have clear and much longer quotes that are fantastic!
Which is better? They're both great, and in a few instances the film pulls things together in a way I liked a little more, especially towards the end.
Will definitely listen to this many more times, and I think if I were the author, I'd like what they did with my book.

I simply love this story!

I've watched the movie nearly 100 times probably in the last 15 years. this book makes me remember the movie in slow motion. allowing me to savor every detail. I love the plot, the twists, the ideals and emotions. I may be twisted but dammit this is a great movie, book, and audible offering.

pretty much identical to the movie.

both were great but I didn't get much from the book that wasn't in the movie. not infrequently the dialogue and scenes were identcal. a few details were different.
