Publisher's summary

Internationally best-selling author Chuck Palahniuk's uproarious and irreverent debut novel Fight Club was transformed into an Academy Award-nominated film starring Edward Norton and Brad Pitt.

When a listless office employee (the narrator) meets Tyler Durden, his life begins to take on a strange new dimension. Together they form Fight Club - a secretive underground group sponsoring bloody bare-knuckle boxing matches staged in seedy alleys, vacant warehouses, and dive-bar basements. Fight Club lets ordinary men vent their suppressed rage, and it quickly develops a fanatical following. Before long it takes on all the trappings of a quasi-religious cult, replete with a devastating ideological mission to accomplish.

A masterpiece of raw violence and black humor, this exciting novel challenges listeners to see the world through a new - and quite possibly deranged - set of eyes. Acclaimed narrator Jim Colby brings out the dark satire in this tale of modern alienation.

This book made me chuckle so much. 10 out of 10. Puts the movie to shame.

Great story!

As always the book proves better than the movie! The visceral story telling has tasting the blood in your own beaten face.

Amazing

Try it on 0.75x speed. I particularly enjoyed the ending. The writer's style and the reader moved me. Excellent tones.

Very good, not perfect.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I loved the movie, and I love the book as well. The book is harder to follow than the movie, especially the way it under describes certain things. The movie actually makes the book make more sense, I recommend reading the novel second. The movie is just more organized and easier to follow than the book. I saw the movie first so this is just my opinion, I could see the book being confusing to an unfamiliar reader. Anyways, love the characters and story, a must read!!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main character is very relatable to be.

Did Jim Colby do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes, the reader did a good job, not the best, but not bad.

If you could take any character from Fight Club out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Tyler would probably convince me to join his cult...

Any additional comments?

If you love the movie then read the book. If you have not seen the movie, then see it, then read the book.

What would Tyler Durden do?

Great book. The story is amazing and the writing is fantastic as I love how Palahniuk makes you feel the confusion going on in The Narrator's head through his style of writing. The story jumps around, but very easy to follow. He also makes it easy to visualize the story and environment very well.

Great book, but production could be better

The story and narration were great, but the editing not so much. Some passages were obviously rerecorded, chapters end on a joke or shock, only to have the next chapter roll over you before you can appreciate it. This book has a very staccato style, and there are a lot of places where more attention to the rhythm of the narration would have made an edit more seamless, but instead drops a beat and jars you away from the story.

Over production hurts

I was so excited to see this get a rerecording. However, the producing efforts are very poor, especially in the first half of the book. It is very distracting to have what was obviously multiple reads spliced together, sometimes multiple cuts in a single paragraph.

This really pulled me out of the experience to hear the voice switch again and again.

Also, it's almost as if no one on the production side listened to the audio book before publishing. There are a few instances of glaring issues. At one point, there is zero space between the conclusion of a chapter and the announcement of the next chapter, as in zero delay. It's jarring, and again, takes you out of the experience.

Overall, the book itself is such a classic. It should be on everyone's lifetime must read list if you are under 50.

Based on the production here though, I'd recommend this one be read off the pages. While the actual voice performance is solid, the stitching together of the work is disappointing.

Great story. Felt rushed

This is a great story and overall entertaining audiobook, but at times it sounded like the reader could not wait to be done.
