"This is erotic fiction that firmly falls into the by women for women category. I’ll be buying copies for all my girlfriends this year... an intriguing read 5 stars." (Bookbag)
There was no zero star option and I was forced to choose 1 star. There is no good bits in this book not even the sex. Yes. Not even the sex.
Her style of writing is pubescent. I cannot believe that an adult woman wrote this book and one with 2 kids. She is obviously still stuck in puberty. The main character only knows 10 adjectives. The male lead is not believable and come on…. he is a billionaire with no signs of intelligence. Not only that, the narrator sounds like a teenager?!? Sigh. I can’t write for $#% and I acknowledge that. This author should also acknowledge that she can’t write for #$% and acknowledge that even sex can’t save this book. But unfortunately not everyone thinks like me. Obviously some women who do not read any other romance novels or do know what good sex is bought this book and gave it 5 stars. This book is crap. Do not waste your time or your money. If you wanted porn, just Google it or pick up a good erotic novelist.
Not the Narrator's fault. She was only doing her job and reading what was on paper... crap.
the whole book would have been cut and not even published
The standards of literature is dropped alarmingly as this book made the NYT Best Selling list.
I am an artist, living in Cairns, Queensland, Australia right next to the Great Barrier Reef. I listen to audiobooks everyday while making art and on into the night. I really like mysteries with a good serving of suspense on the side that keep you wondering right to the end. However, I won't say no to any entertaining and well written book which has been read by an excellent narrator.
I guess because it's fairly repetitive and, for me, not really that erotic. I think Lisa Kleypas' books are a lot more so. I'm half way through part 3 and will finish it but I doubt that I will buy the rest of the trilogy. Mr Grey is a bit too grey for me; he just doesn't do it for me and if I hear anyone say "oh my" anytime soon, I'll feel like hitting them!
Hot romance/Sci Fi we're so lucky to have Audible to feed our book addictions. I love walking my precious dog Sydney & listening to my books
I have really enjoyed this series. Love the characters and the way the books are written. Narrator is excellent. Found this series hard to turn of. Just wanted to keep listening. Highly recommended. :)
being me n loving myself...
I must say that this book was exceptional.
i was looking for atleast one flaw so that I can say not listening to this book earlier was no harm just to do myself justice but to my surprise I damned myself for the late listen. :(
to you E L James you have made my day a lot on several occasions, the way the book was written was exquisite and I am not just saying this for word sake but you did all your fans justice. the stages that the book gradually increased, the way that the characters were developed, their personalities that meshed so wonderfully I must say that you took time out to write this book in which I do appreciate, you can know when someone take the time out to do something I could feel that in every words of this book when Anastasia Steele went to interview Christian Grey and bare in mind that the interview was for her friend so for the book to turn out this way it took one heck of an U turn in which did got me obsessed possessed and will keep this book 4ever
THANK YOU SO MUCH E L James :-) .............
Now Becca Battoe are you only human????? because I did not know that such talent exist in one person and I really do hope that when I listen to more books with you I will not have to take this back (I really hope that you will keep my 5 star ratings).. what I would really like to know is how did you know that this book was just so perfect for that well trained, refreshing breathtakingly beautiful, elegant, divine, precious, tantalizing and sweet voice. you played all these characters as they were ought to be played I really n truly enjoyed your narration, perfect book perfect voice can it get any better??? the way you portrayed the male voices was beautiful. I know that you did your best because listening to the book really takes my breath away I was awwed and I know that I was not the only person. You are one hell of a narrator you took this book and made it your own in which that's what made this book sooooooooo special.
I wonder did E L James wrote this book and handed it to you herself or were you stunned by the book and wanted to read this for the world at hand. THANK YOU ALSO for making this book into an unforeseen movie you did us listener justice.
Addicted to Audible.
LOVE the story in general. So much happened in the novel, it moved fast and was always dramatic. I couldnt put it down.
Christian Grey! OH Always Christian Grey!
It was fabulous. Great story, great storytelling. Becca Battoe just brought the characters to life.
The time travelers wife read by Fred Berman, Phoebe Strole. They did a great job, but Becca was a cut above!
Her ability to really create characters with her narration. The mood and warmth or lack of she would create.
its too cool a name, I wouldnt call it anything else! Hat off to EL James! She's amazing!
One of the best. Not only is it a good story, but the narator Becca Battoe is the BEST that I've listen to so far.
I haven't read any others like this.
I haven't yet, but I absoluetly will
If it's me taking them out, I would say Kate or Anna.. But I would definitely let Mr Fifty-Shades take me to dinner any time.
Not worth the hype
Anything better then this
Her character voices
Will not be listening to the next in the series
I have never heard and Audiobook narrator this bad. Do not listen to the Audiobook if you have never read these books before. She reads very slow so you loose the banter and flow between the characters because you are just waiting for her to get to it. She is also terrible at accents. In the first book she sounds like a teenager trying to put on a mans voice (all over exaggerated deep voice that she struggls to use constantly) it was very distracting and unrealistic. Also any new character automatically has a southern drawl (annoying and inconstant given that the book is set in Washington State!) and then when she try's to do a foreign accent I don't know what she was trying to do but she mangles it badly. I could not recognises any of the accents she was trying to do (and they were only French, Scottish and Russian, pretty standard accents).
If you have read the books before, as I had, you can go with the flow to some extent but absolutely do not get these if you haven't already read the story, it will put you right off the books before the end of the first chapter. In any event you will find yourself banging you head against the wall at how she mangles simple things.
I prefer audio
All of them
They are all good
A must for your audio library
"Intriguing and Enlightening"
Intriguing, enlightening and risque
i think it would have to be Christian Grey because here was a man who was handsome and rich could have any woman he liked and yet he could never keep them because of this dark secret he had. he had everything and yet he had nothing.
i loved the interaction of when Anastasia goes to visit Christians parents for dinner and he is late arriving. when he eventually turns up, his mother expected him to greet her first but he went straight to Anastasia and greeted her with a kiss to the dismay of his mother. to me this showed how much he loved Anastasia and how much he wanted her to feel he was on her side in this strange environment.
the bit where Anastasia just wanted to please him and opted to go along with his wishes of being dominated for the first time and found it not to be the experience she thought it was going to be.
it was a good ending as it left the story open to be taken further.
"Unable to get started due to timing out, poor :-( "
RIP beautiful Pat xx
Dissatisfaction, :-( :-( :-( xxx xxxx xxx :-( x
Well read, once you get used to her very young sounding voice! Really enjoyed it Jx
"Weak, nonsense, really bad boon and narrator"
Worst book I've ever read... I'm a young woman, highly educated, good looking and married successfully... This book wasn't love, nor sex... Girls please be aware of these none sense and don't fall for it... I explained who I so you wouldn't think that I'm some ugly depressed old woman who hasn't seen the face of love or never had sex and doesn't want you to get any either...
"giggly in that way"
this book is very addictive to listen to especially with the narrator becca i loved it on to book two then three
"all hyped up for the wrong reasons"
unsure of it because of the hype around it, it was lovely to listen to the story develop . the reader has a clever way of emoting innocence, joy of discovery as well as tempering fear of the unknown . showing a good command of descriptive language without vulgarity, the writer managed to not be too 'lady Chatterky' s lover' in the language for the 21st century.
Loved it for my first time audible and i would recommend it definitely, and hope more people use them wen in parks on sunny days
"Not raunchy enough"
The story itself was ok but thought the story teller could have done better to create different personalities for the characters plus not as raunchy as i expected.
The Narrator was amazing funny with good timing
A brilliant read
I highly recommend this book to everyone
"Narrater was crap"
I have listen more than once ,trying to understand Christian and his ways and after seeing the film I see those actors in my head..I preferred the second book a bit more as you got more into Christians head
could not stand Becca Battoe I think it would have been better with a male and female narrators
yes cried at the end
