Publisher's summary

After breaking off her engagement, 30-something Andi Cutrone yields New England to her ex and flees home to Long Island. There, she devotes her time to teaching in the writing program at Brooklyn University and overanalyzing her past failed relationships. But then she meets Devin, a male escort whose client list seems to include at least half of the accomplished women she knows. He is handsome, charismatic, and absolutely out of her league, but she can’t deny he has a certain…something. And so Andi makes him a proposition: If he will teach her to shed her sexual inhibitions, she will teach him to be a writer. He agrees, and together they embark upon an intense partnership that proves to be every bit as instructive as it is arousing.

For in the midst of lessons in rhetorical theory and foreplay, Andi and Devin delve into deeper questions about truth, beauty, and self, stripping away the emotional walls each has built up. Smart, witty, and introspective, Faking It is an engrossing novel about two people discovering their authentic selves.

wonderful

I got this book on sale and probably would have never looked twice at it but after I started listen to I have to admit I truly enjoyed it. The main characters were great and the author’s style of writing is very refreshing to me. It’s a nice change from what I normally listen to. This book is about an insure woman who want to learn to feel sexy in her own skin. She’s introduced to a popular male escort who teaches her to let lose. There is a lot more to this story that I can’t tell without giving everything away. I think this book was great and I would listen to it again.

Love Story for the More Mature

I first read this book on my Kindle and once I found it available at Audible, I wanted to listen too. I am not a young person, but I enjoy a good romance. It is nice to have one about people born before 1980. I think the richness of their life experiences adds to the richness of the character development. I loved the addition of the details on composition, rhetoric and art history. It is a painless way to learn a little something and was important to the development of these characters. This is not your typical romance novel, but it satisfies the urge to read one.

More self discovery than romance

I liked this book. I would give it 3.5 stars. The description makes it sound like a romance, but it is more of a self discovery book with romance elements. Very enjoyable. At no point in the story did I want to smack our heroine. This is contrary to many romance novels I have read, so I am very pleased. She progressed steadily as a person and I cheered for her along the way. She takes what she learns and makes good, solid decisions. This is so seldom the case in novels, that I feel it very satisfying and noteworthy.

The narrator wasn't amazing. I didn't care for her at the start of the book. But once I got used to her, I stopped hearing her (if you know what I mean). So, not the worst narrator, by far. She just didn't add anything extra to the experience.

Really a 2.5

The ending was good but took too long to get there. There was too much English writing and teaching details. There was no sex, though it was alluded to. And it took too long for everything. Someone else might say that the author really developed the characters and the main relationship, which would be true. But I still believe that it was more wordy than it had to be, a bit drawn out. Finally I ended up fast forwarding it about 2 hours from the ending. I will not be seeking this author again. Though I liked the dry humor in the book very much and liked some of the dialogue but not enough to drudge through too many unnecessary details once again. The narrator was fine.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

What could Elisa Lorello have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Less about writing, I mean come on is it meant to be a love story or a how to book???

Hmmm…

Because it was a free listen, I listened. The narrator or did not put me to sleep however very monotone even with the attempts and differentiating between Boston and NY accents.

Storyline: interesting and different however the main character was so damn whiny I wanted to stop the book by chapter 5 but because I don’t like not completing a book and I pressed on. This book did not truly ‘per up’ in my opinion until chapter 18 (yes I’m that person who hates to give up!).

Would I recommend?: nah not really.

However I see there is a part 2 of this protagonist and it sounds interesting. Am I a glutton for punishment? Maybe.

OK Story but gets a bit political!

There are portions of the story that are really good and held my interest and, unfortunately, much of the story dragged on. The author is a very talented writer and has good knowledge. It does, at times, comes across as a bit snooty but I mostly attribute that to being a Northeastern Intellectual (not a bad thing as this region produces many of the smartest people on the planet).

What caused this story to fall from 3 to 2 Stars us the author using derisive political dialog which easily alienates half of the reading audience. Too many people try to pigeonhole Republicans and Democrats as two dimensional robots and in most cases, it just isn't true. I am fiscally conservative, socially moderate so I agree with beliefs on both sides. I know others that are fiscally liberal and socially conservative as well. Authors, if you want to cater to a specific ideology, you ought to add an author's note above the blurb describing the story. Just my two cents.

Faking is life

Everyone was doing it. Faking something. The premise was good. For some reason I feel unless you were an English Major, all the English lessons seemed too many, too much. I ran through them quickly not giving much thought to what was said. It seemed to slow the flow? Could be because medical science is more my thing? The reader fit the voices well.

Not what I expectedly...

This had a different vibe for me than most books I have listened to recently. It had a The Way We Were feel to me. It seemed old even though it was set modern. Not a bad book but it requires a higher understanding of art and literature than I have. It is definitely not your typical HEA romance
