Publisher's summary

A crippling knee injury forced Elliot Mills to trade in his FBI badge for dusty chalkboards and bored college students. Now a history professor at Puget Sound University, the former agent has put his old life behind him, but it seems his old life isn't finished with him.

A young man has gone missing from campus and as a favor to a family friend, Elliot agrees to do a little sniffing around. His investigations bring him face-to-face with his former lover, Tucker Lance, the special agent handling the case.

Things ended badly with Tucker, and neither man is ready to back down on the fight that drove them apart. But they have to figure out a way to move beyond their past and work together as more men go missing and Elliot becomes the target in a killer's obsessive game....

Great story, terrible performance

What did you love best about Fair Game?

Fun Story, interesting connections.

What other book might you compare Fair Game to and why?

Since this was my second Josh Lanyon book and you can feel the same writer it what is written and it was very enjoyable.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Ray Ramano?

Charlie David is always my first choice, also the recording says it was read by Sawyer Allen. And if it was him and to Ray Ramano that needs to be changed. Because i would hate to give an AWFUL review of a the wrong person. He was flat in the whole performance showing almost no emotion or vocal range.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Very entertained with the mystery

It's not bad...

It was just boring to me at beginning, I wasn't into it until about halfway through.

Narrator ruins it

I was really into the story! The characters were interesting, the case had me guessing who did it. But the narrator was so bland. So awful. It was a STRUGGLE not to zone out. His use of tone was so off! Someone would be angry and he’d sound cheerful. Someone would be interested and he’d sound casual. I don’t know who this guy is or how he got this job but he ruined this really interesting story that could have been really sexy. But instead sounded like a Dad reading gay sex like it was evening news.

Entertaining Listen, Again!

Just a note to say that Fair Game by Josh Lanyon is a captivating well written murder mystery novel. Released in 2010, it's one of her older books, but it holds its own against many new murder mystery books. Lanyon's context and setting at a college in Puget Sound is perfect because it's a little "small town", surrounded by thick pine woods that can be spooky to walk through at night, thus the feeling of potential danger is often present. Elliot is a professor at the university who had to leave his FBI detective life after a painful crippling injury to his knee. He left his career and his colleague with benefits (Tucker) behind to start up a new life in Puget Sound University. He lives on a sparsely populated island in a beautiful remote cabin in the woods, commutes by ferry, and is working to recover as much as possible from his knee injury. Elliot gets drawn into the murder mystery when two young men from the college go missing. The story has a variety of characters who may or may not have something to do with the missing students; each personality adding their own twist to the mystery. I'm an unabashed Josh Lanyon fan and have been recently revisiting her novels, both stand alone and series. I recommend Fair Game to those who haven't read Lanyon's older books and to those haven't discovered Josh Lanyon and enjoy a murder mystery with a modicum of MM steaminess.
Sawyer Allerde narrates this book beautifully.

A Great Listen

This is a great murder/mystery. The author focused on the making of a great story as opposed to writing another gay romp through the sheets, which was a great relief since the publisher is Harlequin I had my reservations. The story is well paced and holds interest up until the last word is spoken. Ray Ramano does an excellent job with narration. Very satisfying; this book was well worth the money.

A Great Listen

This book was by far one of Josh Lanyon's best. If I would have been able to listen to the whole thing in one sitting I would have. It is truly one of those books where you spend half the time thinking "OMG whats going to happen next? I bet it was this guy!"

Mystery, Romance & Guys with Guns

I'm always anxious about starting a new series specially an audiobook. Without delving in too deep about my personal criteria I'll just say I take a lot in to consideration before pressing that add to cart button.
The story itself was brilliant. I'm a huge fan of mysteries, crime drama and the M/M genre. I'm new to this writer and I'm absolutely pleased with the fact that I also enjoyed not just the story itself but his writing. I will be reading to more books by Josh Lanyon.
The Sawyer Allerde was good but I just think this particular series was not for him. His take on the characters it was nice. I'd give him another listen in a different series.

Very interesting

I love this novel especially the story line. Also the relationship aspect is very unpredictable. Definitely worth reading. Also the narrator does a good job and keeps the listener excited!

Will Listen to Again

Could have used a little more variance in narrators expressiveness but I still really enjoyed the experience.

surprise

I can usually figure out who did it in the first 3 chapters. I love when a book totally surprises me. This was an amazing piece of work.
The narration was excellent.
