Publisher's Summary

From number-one New York Times best-selling authors Preston & Child, an all-new short story featuring Agent Pendergast, available only as an ebook and audio download.

In New Orleans' French Quarter, the Tooth Fairy isn't a benevolent sprite who slips money under your pillow at night.... He's a mysterious old recluse who must be appeased with teeth - lest he extract retribution. When young Diogenes Pendergast loses a tooth, however, his skeptical older brother Aloysius is determined to put the legend to the test...with dire consequences.

I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!

"A different take on the tooth fairy"

This is a creepy but cute 45 minute short story from from Perdergast's childhood in New Orleans. I'm aware that narrator Rene Auberjonois gets rave reviews for the Pendergast novels he narrates, but I'm not a fan.

"Great Pendergast short story, don't use a credit"

Typically convoluted and fascinating Pendergast short story--great for Halloween or around a campfire. Pay the small price, but don't use a credit, as it is so short. But definitely worth getting!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    yes of course!!

What did you like best about this story?

It solves a mystery all Pendergas fans have wondered about.

Have you listened to any of Rene Auberjonois’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Wonderful story telling... I love his honeyed voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I didn't realize that this story actually tells the reader what we have always wanted to know.
    I loved it.

    "Pendergast teaser"

While I hunger for more Agent Pendergast this was a little predictable. The narrator was excellent and the story fair.

    Story
"A chilling short Aloysius - Great"

This is a short teaser before the up coming release of the next Pendergast novel. As always, his stories are chilling. This story is from his childhood and told to Constance in the living room of their house in New York. It is suitably disturbing in the traditional manner. It is worth the hour. Pop open your wallet and pay cash. Thumbs up.

    Story
    "Predictable, another let-down"

Dear authors, I know you can do better! I may have found this scary and unpredictable when I was about 9y/o, but most of your fans are not children! Some of these novels have been fantastic, but sadly, some have been sub-par, and others just flat-out garbage. I feel you're going too fast, cutting corners, churning out product for pay instead of literature for fans (it's now 2016) and I'm a very, very disappointed fan, literally on the verge of becoming a "former" fan. Please, slow down, or devote more time, and stop sacrificing the sanctity and dignity of your own characters. It is truly heartbreaking to become so attached to and/or proud of characters, only to have you needlessly destroy the best parts of them, as well as their relationships with Pendergast, to bend a storyline into submission. I haven't "loved" one of your stories since "Wheel of Darkness". Please, please, please, bring back the Pendergast & Co. that we love, not the tortured, twisted, broken self-loathing soul he's turned into. He should never again become the victim in his own story, it's a tired, failed avenue. We need Pendergast the pseudo-superhero with that slick Southern gent Pendergast 'tude!

    Story
"A Visit Back to Pendergast's Childhood"
What did you love best about Extraction?

It is a short story with an interesting, grisly twist on the tooth fairy.

What did you like best about this story?

When young Pendergast enters the old mansion of the bogus tooth fairy with his father.

What does Rene Auberjonois bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is an actor and brings the story to life in his own way.

If you could take any character from Extraction out to dinner, who would it be and why?

    Pendergast of course!

    "Way to Short!"

I enjoyed this short story however the last 18 minutes or so are not part of it. Because of this and the price I felt a little cheated.

This standalone short story is just the right amount of creepy. terrific narration as well as content: I enjoyed the glimpses into the childhood of the Pendergast boys.
