Publisher's Summary

The President is dead and the weight of the world falls on Jack Ryan's shoulders, in Tom Clancy's most extraordinary work. Ryan had agreed to accept the position of Vice President only as a caretaker for a year. But when the President, most of the Cabinet, the Supreme Court, the Joint Chiefs and the majority of Congress are killed, Ryan finds himself the new President. Around the world, unfriendly eyes are on Jack, eager to take advantage where they may and present Jack Ryan with a crisis so great that even he could not imagine it.

"One more great listen from Clancy."

In the Jack Ryan series from Tom Clancy, I put Executive Decision behind Debt of Honor and The Bear and the Dragon. But since, IMHO thoes are the Best of the Best in the audio world (both are AVAILABLE here on Audible) this is still a great story and a great listen. Top notch.

    "Enjoyable"

I enjoyed this book despite it being abridged. The narrator was excellent. It did feel at times as though there were holes in the story, which is probably to be expected with an abridged version, but I didn't find that it took so much away that it made it difficult to follow. Good book!

    "Executive Orders"

The abridged version while keeping the essence of the story did leave some caps unfilled and left me disappointed with the overall experience. However being a Tom Clancy fan I was still riveted by its content and development to its climax . I would recommend this version as to a first time Clancy reader but once they are hooked then I would recommend they read the fuller version Overall a good listen

    "Not bad, but not terrific"

Not bad, but not real entralling either...

The typical fast paced story with minimal meat or intrigue for me. I am starting to think it may be personal taste at this point. While I love these types of movies, I find that I just don't enjoy the books as much.

    "Best of Clancy"

Far and away the best Clancy novel since Red Storm Rising. Sadly, it marks the apogee of Jack Ryan's career. There is nowhere to go from here, and Clancy is not going to keep re-writing the West Wing. All his books from this one forward talks about someone else. Too bad. But enjoy this one. It's the real deal.

    "Really Good, But not Great"

The "ABRIDGED" book is pretty good. I enjoy Tom Clancy novel immensely. Moreover, this book would be a very much improved Audiobook if it were not an abridged edition. However, it is my considered opinion that anyone who purchases and downloads this audiobook would not be disappointed.
So buy this audiobook and enjoy.

I read this book when it was just released. Now, with retina detachment recovery it is nice to be read to.
Great story, and doesn't get old.

    "Gripping"

The abridged version was a quick listen, providing the meat of the story without some of the very long stretches of boredom reported by others reading this 1300+ page book.Technology was dated somewhat since it was written nearly 20 years ago--noted but not distracting. It was well researched, as Clancy always does and includes a mix of national and tactical views. I especially enjoyed Ryan's first speech where he said that he did not want politicians...realistic? Maybe? The Iranian sponsored biologic attack is something that was developed with interesting effects, probably not horrific enough. DC and international. Iran inspired bio attack. The tactical movements of Army units around Southwest Asia during the last hour was pretty boring. Glad I listened to the abridged version...good story!
