Publisher's Summary

The son of Maya Angelou, Guy Johnson is a critically acclaimed author and poet in his own right. Echoes of a Distant Summer is the story of Jackson St. Clair Tremain, a San Francisco civil servant who thought he had left his old life far behind. In 1982, Jackson is summoned to Mexico to confer with his dying grandfather, the brutal hustler King Tremain. When King dies, Jackson inherits $50 million - and the unwanted attentions of a malevolent bayou crime lord named Pug DuMont.

    "Echoes of a Distant Summer"

Marvelos, absolutely marvelous. It's a gripping soulful captivating sequel to his previous book, Standing at the Scratchline. I would highly recommend reading that book first. I couldn't wait to get in my car to listen to the next part... He writes so well. The detail he gives to the characters as well as the events is all consuming. Read it. It's good. (But I still recommend reading Standing at the Scratchline first.) Congratulations Mr. Johnson. Well done.

Loved it! Action packed, exciting and very well
written. If you can, read "Standing at the Scratch Line" first. I hope to read more from this author!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! Especially after reading the first book, Standing at the Scratch Line. Guy Johnson sure does know how to put together a story. Well written plot and spending much time on character development allows the reader to truly understand the actions the characters choose to take. Well done Mr. Johnson, Well done!

What other book might you compare Echoes of a Distant Summer to and why?

None. (Except for the first book Standing at the Scratch Line).

What about Peter Jay Fernandez’s performance did you like?

One of my favorite narrators, he has yet to prove me wrong, I love his pace, delivery, and how he draws you into the story.

If you could rename Echoes of a Distant Summer, what would you call it?

    I would not. It fits.

Great story! This book was so great. The author was able to develop the characters, introduce new characters, and keep the story in vivid pictures the entire time. I enjoyed this book immensely. I only hope there is a third book soon!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    Yes I would.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Echoes of a Distant Summer?

So many memorable moments but of course the ending is what I was longing for.

Which character – as performed by Peter Jay Fernandez – was your favorite?

    The main character, Jackson Tremain.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I could hardly stop listening each time I put it down.

    Any additional comments?

The language is harsh and the revenge is disheartening, but this book was hard to put down. The writting is superb and a wonderful finish to the Tremain story. It shows what a waste revenge is and never ends, destroying families and hurting many others. Bigotry and prejudice are so terrible and this is a story that highlights that. Thank goodness love and family finally win out. It is never to late to seek forgiveness.

    "Excellent!"

I read this book series many years ago. It was a joy to hear it narrated. I only wish the talented Guy Johnson would write another, I would love to see how the Tramaines end up . Mr. Johnson defiantly has inherited the wonderful skills of story telling from his phenomenal mother Ms. Maya Angelou.

What did you love best about Echoes of a Distant Summer?

The story of the Trumain family was captivating.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Echoes of a Distant Summer?

The story was filled with memorable moments from each decade of the story.

What about Peter Jay Fernandez’s performance did you like?

The narrator was able to keep a very long story with many low parts interesting.

If you could take any character from Echoes of a Distant Summer out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would take Serena out to dinner to ask why she couldn't find the strength to change course and right the wrongs she'd done sooner.
