Teri Woods has built a considerable literary legacy thanks to her compelling urban novels. The first volume of a trilogy, Dutch follows the criminal career of street hood James Bernard Jr., a.k.a. Dutch.
Even while stealing cars, Dutch knew he was destined for more, and it wasn’t long before he saw his chance to seize power in New Jersey. Now a Jersey kingpin, Dutch is coming under fire from an upstart DA—but it won’t be easy to take down this streetwise criminal.

THIS BOOK ON AUDIO WAS AMAZING. OMG! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. IT GRABBED MY ATTENTION FROM BEGINNING TO END, I LISTENED ON MY WAY TO AND FROM WORK VIA MY iPHONE. IT WAS CLEAR AND PRECISE. I LOVED IT. LOOKING FOR BOOK 2.
I just finished listening to this book, and wow! If you love gangster/mob type movies and/or books--then get this one. Ezra did a wonderful job nnarratoring this book. Since I love courtroom dramas, this book was excellent as it takes place in a courtroom, but flashes back to other events that happened. Ready to read the sequel.
A few must reads: Mr. Mercedes, Narrows Gate, Cop Town, Bomb Proof, Wayfaring Stranger, The Son (Nesbo), Dept Q series...
I have enjoyed stories of criminals and gangsters for years, but the longer I listened to this the more depressed I felt. There is so much hate from remarkably shallow people I just had to quit listening. I am sure this story rings true for many, sadly people like this thrive in the US.
For example I've heard of black soldiers in Vietnam Nam killing white soldiers in some circumstances. But here we have a character killing well over 50 fellow soldiers because of his hatred of whites. Depressing? I think so.
Never thought that I would be cheering for the likes of "Dutch and everything he represented. Loved his strength, his psych, and every person he represented in the hood. Soooo tangible....so real!
Dutch I didn't condone his actions but he was the mastermind of conception
The court room drama, didnt see it coming
Love to listen to audio books narrated by Ezra Knight great narrator and This my first listen to Terri Woods book. It was great from start to finish
Tell us about yourself!
This book instantly grabbed my attention and took me on a thrill ride though the sequels! Original plots. You were challenged to guess what was next.
Dutch was my favorite because he was a born genius.
I have listen to Ezra Knight's other performances and liked this one the best so far. When I search for more books, I will include Ezra Knight in my search for new books. Outstanding!
I felt like I was on a roller-coaster, I could wait to get back on the ride.
Donald Goines lives. I would love to hear Ezra Knight narrating Donald Goines' series of books.
So, I have just read Teri Wood's "True to the Game" and was completely swept up. I decided to try out "Dutch" because it was on sale. I'm glad I did. I thought he story was interesting and gritty, the characters ruthless and raw. I did not like this book as much as "True to the Game" or "White Lines" (both beginning trilogy books about hustling on the streets) but I would definitely recommend. I also have a strong suspicion that this will be one of those trilogies where each one gets better and better. There's a lot of room left for character growth and development and plot twists and turns. I am sure Ms. Woods will deliver. check this out.
It was a good read if you want to experience how life is in the inner city.
Life on the other side of right.
I wouldn't go as far to say time well spent but it held my interest for the most part.
No, not at all. I'm not really in a rush to read the second and third parts, but I will out of curiosity.
He did a wonderful job giving the story life and distinguishing the characters.
Maybe a series. It would need a lot of development. I see what the author was goin for, but the story lagged at times.
