Dreamcatcher

Once upon a time, in the haunted city of Derry (site of It and Insomnia), four young boys did a brave thing - something that changed them in ways they hardly understand. Publisher's Summary

Once upon a time, in the haunted city of Derry (site of It and Insomnia), four young boys did a brave thing - something that changed them in ways they hardly understand. A quarter-century later, the boys are men who still get together once a year, to go hunting in the north woods of Maine. But this time a man comes stumbling into their camp, lost, disoriented, and muttering about lights in the sky. Before long, these old friends will be plunged into the most remarkable events of their lives and a terrible struggle with a creature from another world. Not the usual King's style. Narration could have been more intriguing. little disappointed with the experience.

    "This wasn't a book I enjoyed"
Would you try another book from Stephen King and/or Jeffrey DeMunn?

Absolutely I have read many Stephen King books & listened to some to one he read 'Bag of Bones' & loved it, I listen to lots of books I have read & enjoyed over the years but I occasionally come across 1 I just can't get into. This was one of those

What do you think your next listen will be?

Ive already had lots since this & I'd love to listen to "The Stand" but for some reason I can't get it in Australia

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Mainly disappointment. This should have been a book I enjoyed

    "Not King's best work"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I listen while commuting so the time was already wasted. This book was an OK way to pass that lost time

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Glad it was over. It seemed to take longer to get to the punch line than it needed to

Have you listened to any of Jeffrey DeMunn’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    I have not

Do you think Dreamcatcher needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No! It already had an epilogue it didn't need to close it out

Typical Stephen King book in that it builds and builds the suspense. Very enjoyable.

    "Listen up"

This is one of my favourite SK books. 4 friends do a brave, kind deed, defending a intellectually disabled boy being bullied. They become a tight group, complete with their own sayings and shared experiences. They grow up and it appears some bad s**t was coming their way and they need to deal with it. There's no religion in this one, some magic but not to the extent it can go in a SK novel. It's about a group of friends. It's about growing up together. It's about the possible end of the world. It's not too slow, no punches are pulled. The disabled guy is enabling and able - a nice change to many books if they even appear at all. Listen to it!

    "A King Classic"

No other author seems capable of merging horror, sci-fi and tales of ordinary folk as masterfully as Stephen King. If you have seen the film but not read the book (or listened to it) then I recomend that you do so today. You will not be dissapointed.

    "Horrifyingly brilliant!"

I am a newcomer to the work of Stephen King by way of a gift to Audible Books a year ago. In that year I have read nothing but King... from other sources too. The books have made me laugh nervously with the horror of his graphic discription and The Dreamcatcher lived up to that in bucket loads.! The narrator was brilliant (as is usual) and I only prefer The Stand to this book. Yhanks Mr King.

    "gripping"
Would you consider the audio edition of Dreamcatcher to be better than the print version?

i havent read the print version but the narrator in this was perfect, made it very atmospheric.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite character was Henry, , I really felt that I got to know him. His outlook on life changed so dramatically as we went along, you didnt know wether he would end up back where he had started after all the trials he went through.

What about Jeffrey DeMunn’s performance did you like?

    Perfect

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both, lots of laugh out loud moments, the mens boyhood conversations were hilarious in places....and sad with some of the outcomes, the bravery and friendship.

    Any additional comments?

I love Stephen Kings novels, his imagination for the bizarre scenario is amazing and keeps you guessing til the end.

    "Scify fest"
Where does Dreamcatcher rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's a reasonable listen but not I think one of Stephen Kings best efforts.

If you’ve listened to books by Stephen King before, how does this one compare?

It's not my favourite Book or audio book of Stephen King.

    Any additional comments?

This is a Scify fest, with elements borrowed from Stephen Kings other work and lots of other popular Scify mediums , notably alien, invasion of the body snatchers and quite a few others, I didn't find it particularly fresh or bringing anything new to the Scify table so was generally disappointed. The performance I must say is excellent, the narrator makes the listening experience enjoyable.

    "A very satisfying listen"

As usual with Stephen King the story is a satisfying length with fully developed characters you grow to have huge affection for. Although the story, again as usual with King, stretches belief and understanding at times the plot is original and very involving and thought-provoking. I thoroughly enjoyed this book which develops well after a rather confusing start and was really quite sad when I got to the end!
