Publisher's summary

A dark and sweeping adventure, Dreamcatcher is set in the haunted city of Derry - the site of Stephen King's It and Insomnia. In it, four young boys stand together and do a brave, good thing, an act that changes them in ways that they hardly understand.

A quarter-century later, as grown men who have gone their separate ways, these friends come together once a year to hunt in the woods of Maine. This particular year, a stranger stumbles into their campsite, and before long, the friends are plunged into the most remarkable adventure of their lives. They wind up in a life and death struggle, their only hope for survival locked in their shared past... and in the dreamcatcher.

stephen king at his best

Loved the book! loved the reader! Stephen King can be so very disgustingly descriptive, yet not allow me to stop listening.

Incredible book and Jeffery Demunn ROCKS!!

This is one of King's best books ever. The characters jump out of the page and Jeffery Demunn blew me away with his reading. I have listened to it 4 times and still can't believe what a great reader Demunn is. He is on par with the late Frank Muller and surpasses him in many ways I think because of his Maine roots and the characters are from Maine. He sucked me in from the first word. The subtlety of his reading is mind blowing, I can't say enough about what a job Mr. Demunn did.

Whew!

I love Stephen King. It has been years since reading his work.. so it took a minute to get used to his graphic um details. Once I did I fell in and hung on to every page.

Good story but skippng sound

Good but the sound skipped a bit at a few places which ruined some of it.

The story was great and the rest was well done :)

King Catcher

Having read the novel and seen a different version on film blurred my understanding of the invasion over the mediums, but, I love experiencing the Jonesy Henry relationship played out from comparable but entirely different perspectives. The impact of that exposure would differ as much as their experiences.

Enjoyed It But ...

it was way too long and stretched out, a fault King sometimes makes. It starts out a solid 5, then all the action stuff drags on far too long. That's what happened here and why I reduced a star. Great story, just too much of it. A bowl of ice cream is just right (even a second helping), but not a tub full.

I didn’t dislike it

I am a very big Stephen King fan. This was one of the few books I didn’t listen to or read because I saw the movie and didn’t care for it. However, I know that for some reason, King books don’t translate well to film. So I figured I’d give it a shot. Like the title says, I didn’t dislike it, but I didn’t really like it much either. If all the King books I’ve consumed, this was the (subjectively) worst. My problems with the text were two-fold, it was very jumbled. I like books that seem jumbled at first because they reference points that will be made later on in the text tying together aspects that seemed obscure at first. King does this a lot and he is usually very good at it. In the Dark Tower series he does this over the course of books rather than a single manuscript, and he does so masterfully. In this book, however, he just kind of rewrites the weird parts later on, correcting them rather than tying them in. It is as though he had an elaborate plan for them then got bored with the book (or was told it was too long) and decided it would be better just to pretend they weren’t there. The second part I didn’t like was the explanation for the dream catcher and the aliens. This felt a lot like my first complaint, like there might have been some wider plan but it was discarded in favor of this one. At the end of the book King references the term deus ex machina, and I wonder if that was on purpose because that’s what the dream catcher felt like.

As for the narration, it was okay.

King always out does himself

the book in so many ways is as with all books different from the movie and I'm so glad its like getting to have to ending or enjoy two stories. I of coarse knew duddits wouldn't make it but it makes me cry every time in the movie and this being my first time w the book was worse I cried several times as well as laughed. King is a genius and I love all his twisted stories he must be something to be married to and have as a dad. I encourage you if u haven't seen the movie listen to the book first or if u have seen it listen anyway its fantastic.
