Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon enchanted scores of fans with Outlander, her electrifying historical saga set in 18th-century Scotland. Now the sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. Twenty years after her strange journey back in time, Claire has returned to Scotland with her daughter, determined to share with her the secret she has harbored since her time travel. Still longing to know the fate of her beloved warrior, she recounts the story of her stay with him in the intrigue-ridden court of Charles Stuart and their attempt to avert the doomed Highlands uprising at Culloden. As her story unfolds, it reveals implications more far-reaching than even Claire could have guessed.

Narrator Davina Porter's gift for expression captures the history and flavor of a harsh place and time, and gives it the polish of a warm and engaging love story.

Featured Article: The Best Women Narrators to Listen to Right Now

One of the biggest questions listeners have when it comes to approaching a new audiobook is whether or not they'll enjoy the narration style. This is understandable, as audiobooks are at least a few hours long (with many clocking in at 20 hours long—or more!), and sticking with one person's voice for that time period can feel like a big commitment. We rounded up some of the best female narrators with a robust list of audiobooks under their belts.

Loved it the first time, just as good again!

I read this series 15 years ago and now I am listening to them again. So much I had forgotten. I am needing the next book just as I did the first time. So happy I have audio books to listen to in my spare time.

Another trip to Scotland

This is the second in the series and just as good as the first. Even those these books are really long, they keep you interested. This story has been my constant companion while doing housework, sewing, and taking long baths. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Woo Hoo

Would you listen to Dragonfly in Amber again? Why?

On a regular basis.

If you could rename Dragonfly in Amber, what would you call it?

Awesome.

Any additional comments?

Diana Gabaldon has the gift of words. And Davina Porter takes them to a whole new level.

Loved it!

Jaime and Claire have to be one of the most amazing fictional couples EVER!! This is the second book in the Outlander series and it's just as good, if not a little better, than the first. I wish I had the ability to convey how beautifully written, rich, and totally epic these books are. I'm curious about the historical accuracy of not only the general events in the story, but also the smaller details that made up life in 18th century France and Scotland. I'm definitely interested in learning more about this period in history!

If you've read Outlander, then you'll know right from the beginning of Dragonfly in Amber that something is wrong because Claire is back in the 20th century. Frank has passed away and she's returned to Scotland with her grown daughter to tell her the truth about her experience traveling back to the past and who her daughters' real father is. When Claire begins her confession, she picks up the story shortly after the end of Outlander. Jaime and Claire have traveled to Paris attempting to stop the second Jacobite uprising. Their adventures take them from Paris, back to Scotland, and (you know it's coming!) the heartbreak of Claire's return to the 20th century.

The narrator is brilliant and she's ruining me for lesser narrators!

This book has it all!

I love this book. It has adventure, romance, sadness, humor, cleverness and love. The moments between Clair and Jaime sometimes make you feel like you're an intruder because they are so open with one another. Diana Gabaldon is amazing! Her ability to make you feel exactly what the characters are going through...just feels so honest and real. She gets a little wordy, when she's nerding out but I found the subject to be interesting and knowledgeable so I didn't mind so much.

Davina Porter is an impressive narrator! All the different voices and accents are a true gift! I could tell the different characters without being told who said the lines, just by the way she has developed the sound of each character. It. was as if I was listening to a movie. I wish she could narrate all the books in my library!

This audible had a great combination of author and narrator! I am pleased with my purchase!

Performance was wonderful! Characters are well defined. Politics are a little difficult to follow. Can't wait to get the next book!
