An irresistible, heart-warming novel from the much-loved author of numerous Sunday Times best sellers, including A Walk in the Park and To the Moon and Back.
Dexter Yates loves his fun, care-free London life; he has money, looks and girlfriends galore. But everything changes overnight when his sister dies, leaving him in charge of her eight-month-old daughter Delphi. How is he ever going to cope? Comic-strip artist Molly Hayes lives in the beautiful Cotswold village of Briarwood. When it comes to relationships, she has a history of choosing all the wrong men. Leaving the city behind, Dex moves to Briarwood - a much better place to work on his parenting skills - and he and Molly become neighbours. There's an undeniable connection between them. But if Dexter's going to adapt, he first has a lot to learn about Molly, about other people's secrets... and about himself.

The story was really entertaining, and kept me listening even when I didn't have anything to work on (I usually listen to audiobooks while photoshopping and all that stuff) because I couldn't wait to hear what happened next. The narrator was really talented, and while male voices are often a challenge for female narrators, she did really well overall.
As soon as I heard Henry's description (Idris Elba, anyone?) I was in love. I'm a sucker for a gentle giant. Jill Mansell, as always though, creates a fun and lovable cast of characters that makes you wish you could run away and move to Briarwood.
Loved it - definitely recommend it. Worth the credit!
Don't miss this book!!!! It's a real Jill Mansell story. It is defenitely worth your credit and or money.
Its an weird thing but my favourite genre to read is murder/mystery books but when it comes to audio books, I love ChicLit! Odd I know!
This was my first Jill Mansell book and a pleasant surprise. It only took a couple of minutes and i was already into the story. Great chemistry between the 2 leads, he's a "player" from London, she's from the Cotswolds, he moves in next door ....
The other story lines and characters all tied in well and came together smoothly.
The narration was very good, slightly different to what i am use to ie telephone calls but i enjoyed it.
It's a recommended "read"
"Predictable and unbelievable"
I downloaded the free first chapter and quite enjoyed it, as a quick weekend listen, so used a credit to get the whole book. As chapters rolled by the story became more and more ridiculous, predictable and the last few chapters are as if the author got bored too and tried to finish the story and tie up all loose ends as quickly and obviously as she could. The best thing about this story was the narrator, who made a nice job of it. Yes, I did listen to it all, I kept waiting for the twist...
"Glad I didn't miss it"
Easy to listen enjoyable fun book. Good read yet avian from this author Jill Mansell. Have read many already and will read more.
"Great characters, lovely story, well told."
Life - Sorrow - Love
Several interesting characters whose stories are told as we go through the book.
Where Frankie's daughter was extricated from the drugs party in the squaters house by her mother and friends.
Would happily have done so.
Well written, full of interesting well drawn characters whose lives were intertwined with the two main protagonists. A lovely, romantic story with happy endings. Will be looking for more of Jill Mansell's books.
"Feel-good easy listen"
If you are in the mood for something light and easy to listen to, then this is the book for you. The story is highly predictable and there are no unexpected developments, but the book's light hearted approach to reality will not burden you if you already have a lot on your mind and would like to brighten up your day.
Yes it was an interesting book
Dexter buying the cottage in the country side
Clare made it lifelike.. Listening to the book made it seem like being an observer in a real life everyday occurrence
At times it was believable. Like the time when an old friend of dexter's sister wanted to see the baby. Also the changes to his lifestyle he had to make to accommodate the baby
A good book which I would probably not have bought if audio books had not been doing a 2 for 1 sale, and could not find anything in my usual reading genre
"This book started of well but had no middle or end"
I loved Molly but again it was just a typical love story of boy meets girl and they end up in bed.after trying it with a few others in first.
Most of it but a love story does not always need to have a happy ending.
Molly getting splashed with wine in the cafe.
No No we don't need any more trashy love stories and there never was much of a story in the first place. .
"Predictable but enjoyable well narrated chick-lit"
OK so this is standard, predictable chick-lit but if you like the genre it's a really enjoyable, easy listen. I loved all the characters and it really drew me into village life. As ever, Clare Corbett narrates perfectly, she has a compelling, empathetic voice that is perfect for this kind of book. This is my first Jill Mansell and I"ll definitely be listening to more.
"Didn't Miss a Thing Thank Heavens"
Clare Corbett's reading of the book, with her wonderful Bristolian and West Country accents was not only nostalgic but absolutely perfect for an ex-pat Bristolian like me. Jill Mansell is a great storyteller. Everyone got their just reward and lived happily ever after. Don't expect a serious intellectual read - it's chick-lit at its best.
Maggi - she was the most lovable character.
No but I hope to find more.
Smiled a lot.
For me, Jill Mansell can't be faulted.
"Easy listening, bit predictable"
Narrated good, story easy to follow if a little predictable with likeable characters. I listened to this whilst doing night feeds with a new baby and lapses in concentration didn't affect my ability to follow the story!
"Loved every moment"
I'm afraid I can't comment as I haven't read the print version. All I can say is as this is an unabridged audio book I heard everything you would read from a book. I personally feel the audio version always adds to the enjoyment of the book, well only if you have a good narrator which this book does.
I haven't read any other books with this storyline so it's hard to answer. I would however say if you read the authors book called "To the moon and back" then you'll like this other book by her too.
I thought she was a great narrator and I loved how she was different for each character. You wouldn't get this with a book, even if you imagine in your head. She sets the scene well and makes you love each character.
Yes I did, there were times of sadness and happiness amoung other emotions. I think a sign of a good book and a good narrator make a big difference to your emotional reaction.
I have only read one of her books before, her others had yet to draw me in from their description but this one did. I read the description and thought I'd love this book. I then saw the reviews and was worried by the negative comments. I am glad I went with my gut and choose this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the book from beginning to end, in fact I was sad when it finished. Very good story, not always predictable and the narrator really made this a very enjoyable read. Give this book a try, if the description made you want to buy then I know you'll love this book.
