Dogs and Goddesses

Abby has just arrived in Summerville, Ohio, with her placid Newfoundland, Bowser. She's reluctantly inherited her grandmother's coffee shop, but it's not long before she's brewing up trouble in the form of magical baked goods and steaming up her life with an exasperating college professor. And then there's Daisy, a Web-code writer, and her hyperactive Jack Russell, Bailey. Her tightly wound world spins out of control when she discovers the chaos within and meets a mysterious dog trainer.

Publisher's Summary

Abby has just arrived in Summerville, Ohio, with her placid Newfoundland, Bowser. She's reluctantly inherited her grandmother's coffee shop, but it's not long before she's brewing up trouble in the form of magical baked goods and steaming up her life with an exasperating college professor.

And then there's Daisy, a Web code writer, and her hyperactive Jack Russell, Bailey. Her tightly wound world spins out of control when she discovers the chaos within and meets a mysterious dog trainer whose teaching style is definitely hands-on.

Finally there's Shar, professor of ancient history at Summerville College, who wakes up one morning to find her neurotic dachshund, Wolfie, snarling at an implacable god sitting at her kitchen table, the first thing in her life she hasn't been able to footnote.

What on earth is going on in this unearthly little town? It's up to Abby, Daisy, and Shar to find out before an ancient goddess takes over southern Ohio, and they all end up in the apocalyptic doghouse...

    "painfully bad"

I'm a big fan of Jennifer Crusie and dogs so I thought cool! But this was just bad; bad and redundant. I'm good with the magic, sex with hot guys and sisterhood theme but EVERYTHING was so totally over the top. Shar's orgasms from the colors of the paint while painting the kitchen--by herself--the scene just went on forever and well besides being redundant I just don't nee that much information to get the point. After all, there was a great looking GOD in the next room who would have been happy to help! And this keeps happening-the wind blows, the cookies smell good, her dress ruffles- Shar is off.

There are some good one liners but overall the dogs have the best ones and I am use to the women being intelligent in Crusie's books. This was just not worth the credit or the time.

    "Great story"
Would you consider the audio edition of Dogs and Goddesses to be better than the print version?

    Not sure

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dogs and Goddesses?

Baking cookies and painting the mural

What about Renée Raudman’s performance did you like?

Renee' Raudman has done a great job. All the characters have distint voices, I always knew who was speaking.

If you could rename Dogs and Goddesses, what would you call it?

The title is fine as it is.

    Any additional comments?

I am a big Jennifer Crusie fan. This book is a departure from her usual story's. However is was a very fun and laugh out loud story. I do not understand the bad reviews, except perhaps it just isn't their type of story. Not all readers like supernatural stories so maybe that is it. To enjoy this book just suspend the concept of disbelife for awhile. I was sad to see the story end and know I am going to listen Dogs and Goddesses again.

    "Escape reading"

Okay, it's not great literature, but sometimes you want burgers and fries instead of haute cuisine. I'm a big dog fan so I couldn't resist a romance novel where each of the 4 heroines comes with her own canine companion.

    "Cute Story"

I really liked this book. It was funny as all get out, and sexy and cute. The reader was very good at making the voices of each character distinctive.

    "very strange, not expected"

i like jennifer crusie, so i bought the book. as other reviewers stated, i would ask for a refund. it was hard to follow: dogs talking and a god coming to life. confusing and not enjoyable. the fun in the fantasy eluded me. i just found the description of the book misleading. it should be updated to tell more about these strange events and be called science fiction. i am not even 1/3 through it yet, but i will finish it, since i paid for it. i have never before wanted to write a review to prevent others from wasting money. this is a first for me. can somone credit me for this book???

    "Entertaining"

This is very light reading that I found delightful. The characters were such fun and it was wonderful to have an "older woman" as a main character for those of us that are not in our early 20's.

    "BAD TO THE DOG BONE"

It has been along time since I have had to stop listening to a book, but I had to on this one. The story line was so off the wall it was bizarre. If ever I could request a refund I would.

I've been a Jennifer Crusie fan, though I did hesitate to buy this book. The beginnging was a little slow, but it picked up the pace and I soon got into the book and enjoyed it

I would highly recommend this very light-hearted and funny book. It made me laugh outloud to the point that I had to stop walking more than once on my daily walks.

    "Dogs are woman's best friend!"

Three women find themselves at a dog obedience class, after taking some of the punch, they discover they can hear their dogs talking and they are all descended from goddesses. Romance and silliness ensue!
