Publisher's summary

Abby has just arrived in Summerville, Ohio, with her placid Newfoundland, Bowser. She's reluctantly inherited her grandmother's coffee shop, but it's not long before she's brewing up trouble in the form of magical baked goods and steaming up her life with an exasperating college professor.

And then there's Daisy, a Web code writer, and her hyperactive Jack Russell, Bailey. Her tightly wound world spins out of control when she discovers the chaos within and meets a mysterious dog trainer whose teaching style is definitely hands-on.

Finally there's Shar, professor of ancient history at Summerville College, who wakes up one morning to find her neurotic dachshund, Wolfie, snarling at an implacable god sitting at her kitchen table, the first thing in her life she hasn't been able to footnote.

What on earth is going on in this unearthly little town? It's up to Abby, Daisy, and Shar to find out before an ancient goddess takes over southern Ohio, and they all end up in the apocalyptic doghouse...

very strange, not expected

i like jennifer crusie, so i bought the book. as other reviewers stated, i would ask for a refund. it was hard to follow: dogs talking and a god coming to life. confusing and not enjoyable. the fun in the fantasy eluded me. i just found the description of the book misleading. it should be updated to tell more about these strange events and be called science fiction. i am not even 1/3 through it yet, but i will finish it, since i paid for it. i have never before wanted to write a review to prevent others from wasting money. this is a first for me. can somone credit me for this book???

From the author of Welcome to Temptation?

If you haven’t read any Jennifer Cruise books before now I would NOT start with this one. I’ve been a Cruise fan for years, my most favorite may well be Welcome to Temptation, but Faking It, and Bet Me, are on my list of favorites as well, but this? Crusie’s zaniness and love of dogs might be somewhat evident, but it’s nothing like in her other books. As for the performance, no thanks. I found Raudman’s voice to be grating at best. As for the story, I can’t even be sure what the story was because it was like all three authors wrote separate though slightly related stories with the same characters and then smashed it put it together over a day. I was NOT impressed.

Not a typical Jennifer Crusie

Generally I enjoy anything written by Jennifer Crusie... This is the exception. Very odd. Strange. Just plain weird. Couldn't wait for it to be over. The narrator was annoying as well. Don't waste your time.

painfully bad

I'm a big fan of Jennifer Crusie and dogs so I thought cool! But this was just bad; bad and redundant. I'm good with the magic, sex with hot guys and sisterhood theme but EVERYTHING was so totally over the top. Shar's orgasms from the colors of the paint while painting the kitchen--by herself--the scene just went on forever and well besides being redundant I just don't nee that much information to get the point. After all, there was a great looking GOD in the next room who would have been happy to help! And this keeps happening-the wind blows, the cookies smell good, her dress ruffles- Shar is off.

There are some good one liners but overall the dogs have the best ones and I am use to the women being intelligent in Crusie's books. This was just not worth the credit or the time.

I should have been paid to read this.

I should have been paid to read this. So don't know which was worse--the storyline or the reader. Written for high school dropouts.

One of the few I did not finish

A disapointment. I was hoping for something more witty an funny but this story was...well...strange. And the talking dogs. Nahh...

Narration was not for me

I love Jennifer Crusie - this was her first Audible book that I added to my library, and the last. The narration really detracted from the story. I grew up speaking 5 languages, listening to various accents but the accents in this book were just too odd and too hard to listen to. I listened to 2 chapters and I was done.
