Publisher's summary

Abby has just arrived in Summerville, Ohio, with her placid Newfoundland, Bowser. She's reluctantly inherited her grandmother's coffee shop, but it's not long before she's brewing up trouble in the form of magical baked goods and steaming up her life with an exasperating college professor.

And then there's Daisy, a Web code writer, and her hyperactive Jack Russell, Bailey. Her tightly wound world spins out of control when she discovers the chaos within and meets a mysterious dog trainer whose teaching style is definitely hands-on.

Finally there's Shar, professor of ancient history at Summerville College, who wakes up one morning to find her neurotic dachshund, Wolfie, snarling at an implacable god sitting at her kitchen table, the first thing in her life she hasn't been able to footnote.

What on earth is going on in this unearthly little town? It's up to Abby, Daisy, and Shar to find out before an ancient goddess takes over southern Ohio, and they all end up in the apocalyptic doghouse...

A Little Over the Top

The narration of this book was the best thing about it. The story itself, sort of a pseudo - historical romance is not my genre. But I do love dogs and I think the dogs in the book were saying exactly what dogs would be saying if we could understand them. I enjoyed that aspect of the story and some of the love scenes are pretty sexy.

It was the performance for me. . .

i have always been a Jennifer Crusie fan. After finishing all of her solo work, I'm branching out to the collaborations. i was not disappointed. But I was pleasantly surprised by the narrator. She made the story so much more enjoyable with her different voices and really acting out the scenes. Renee Raudman is amazing!

Loved the talking dogs!

I'm glad I didn't read some of these reviews before getting this book! Sure it was far-fetched, a Mesopotamian goddess called via Google, with a temple transported to Ohio, tonic and cookies that give special powers, like the ability to understand dogs. What dog lover wouldn't love to have that!! I really enjoyed the narrator - she sounded like a Jack Russell when voicing Bailey (I have one - that's exactly what he'd sound like!) Not a deep or thought-provoking read, but enjoyable on a long road trip. If you want to let your imagination run wild, don't listen to the nay-sayers - get in touch with your own Goddess!

Giggles and more giggles

I would highly recommend this very light-hearted and funny book. It made me laugh outloud to the point that I had to stop walking more than once on my daily walks.

Dogs and Goddesses

I've been a Jennifer Crusie fan, though I did hesitate to buy this book. The beginnging was a little slow, but it picked up the pace and I soon got into the book and enjoyed it

Entertaining

This is very light reading that I found delightful. The characters were such fun and it was wonderful to have an "older woman" as a main character for those of us that are not in our early 20's.

totally unique!

my husband and i both laughed and enjoyed this book and still occasionally do commentary with each other as the "dogs" -- and crack up. the narrator is excellent; without her, i am not sure this book would have been as good a "read" as we found it.

the writing needed a good editor. too much repetitive sex that was not story driven and certainly not porn or titillating, so tanked on those areas.

Silly, but a good read.

Enjoyable weekend read. Some concepts were a little over the top, but you get caught up in the story. Not Jennifer Crusie's best work, but not bad either.

The title made me read it!

HA! HA! A Mesopotamian temple reconstructed in two parts in Ohio? The Goddess called back to Earth by thousands Googling a misspelled celebrity name. So yes, bring on the plagues, swarms and floods. The best part is always hearing dogs talk...remember "Look who's talking now?"
It is still funny just thinking about this story in order to write this review. :)

Dogs, coffee, and pastries...how can you go wrong?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! It was funny, romantic, with a little magic tossed in, you can't go wrong with this book.

Which character – as performed by Renée Raudman – was your favorite?

Milton the dog! I loved all of her portrayals of the dogs, but Milton was my favorite! I also loved her portrayals of of the three main characters, but Milton was the best.

Any additional comments?

This book was laugh out loud funny. I have to admit I loved the dogs the best, but the story was great and the narrator was awesome. I've listened to it quite a few times and is always something that makes me happy!
