If you could sum up Dinosaur Lake in three words, what would they be?

    Entertaining, light, fun.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the descriptions of Crater Lake and the Park. The book is not particularly deep or wet your pants thrilling but if you're looking to suspend reality and be entertained by a lake monster for a few hours this will fit the bill. If you read the description and think you might be interested you probably won't be disappointed. The writing and narration are good.

    "Scary Adventure!"
Where does Dinosaur Lake rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Pretty high up there. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dinosaur Lake?

The last few chapters had me a nervous wreck!

Which character – as performed by Johnnie C. Hayes – was your favorite?

The main character. He felt very likable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Oh yes.

    Any additional comments?

Mr. Hayes gave the characters a very down-to-earth feel, which I thought was very appropriate for this book. Loved the book, too.

Dinosaur Lake is an exciting and frightening story that places big and powerful dinosaur never before discovered right in the park's midst. This violent creature must survive and has discovered that those screaming, silly little humans make great nourishment..It reminds me of Jurasick Park.

Would you try another book from Kathryn Meyer Griffith and/or Johnnie C. Hayes?

    Yes,I already have

Was Dinosaur Lake worth the listening time?

    yes

    Any additional comments?

There are monsters in Crater Lake!Although I didn't LOVE this book,I enjoyed the story.I found the science side lacking.I was expecting a specific dinosaur to be named, not just referred to as 'monsters' throughout the book.I liked the storyline. The narrator seemed completely wrong for this book. His reading seemed lackluster and needed depth and feeling. I think this book would be great for the YA crowd.I'd have loved it as a teen.

"Beware! Dinosaur Lake has dinosaurs! :-)"

Another good one! Henry Shore (now Chief Park Ranger after being shot as a cop) and his wife are at the heart of this adventure.

After being shot, Henry decides that he needs a less risky job, and his wife agrees. She works for the local newspaper, and together they enjoy a quiet life. Or so it seemed until one day …..

They learned from the old man who runs a tour boat for a living on Crater Lake, a peaceful place until NYC where Henry used to live, that there was a monster in the lake. Of course, they just think he is a crazy old guy until he and his boat disappear, leaving behind wreckage floating on the lake. And then another tour boat and owner disappear.

So, Henry and another guy spend the night on the lake – only to be attacked! So there’s drama, suspense, and even earthquakes!!!!! This audiobook will keep you at the edge of your seat with your heart thumping wildly. But enjoy!!!

What can I say?! It’s Kathryn Meyer Griffith -- once again -- at her finest. Highly recommended if you don’t scare easily.

    "Good Dino story"
What made the experience of listening to Dinosaur Lake the most enjoyable?

    very good story

What other book might you compare Dinosaur Lake to and why?

    Jurassic Park

What aspect of Johnnie C. Hayes’s performance would you have changed?

There are times where at the height of excitement he has the same tone at when the dull stuff is going on. I like for the narrators tone to reflect the tone of what is happening in the story, and his doesn't for the most part.

If you could take any character from Dinosaur Lake out to dinner, who would it be and why?

    none

    "Fun and exciting dinosaur adventure!"
If you could sum up Dinosaur Lake in three words, what would they be?

    Dinosaurs are Awesome!

What did you like best about this story?

The story was a straightforward adventure, not a lot of over done military weapons or insane carnage. I also liked the characters, and the setting was wonderful. I appreciate the lack of bad language and explicit sex scenes too.

Have you listened to any of Johnnie C. Hayes’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't, but I would definitely listen to another one. His "down home" style was perfect.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

There's Something in Crater Lake ... and it's Hungry!

    Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, which I already own.

    "Ugh, all formula"

If you are a National Park ranger and you see an 8 ft long - repeat: 8 FOOT Long - footprint what would you do?

How you answer that question will determine whether you can find this book entertaining. In this book he acts puzzled, goes home, and goes to sleep.

Of course for old-fashioned 'b' grade movie tropes, it is necessary to act clueless and stand around. What would be the fun of them being careful, withdrawing a safe distance, and calling in help?

I draw the line at scientists and Park personnel acting braindead, as in this book. It could have been bearable if the author had done some actual research into paleontology. But it is obvious that the only reference material she used is old 'big book of dinosaurs' children's books.

So read on if you can suppress that little voice that keeps saying 'gee, that's dumb'.

What disappointed you about Dinosaur Lake?

It seemed to drag on for forever with very little action

Would you be willing to try another book from Kathryn Meyer Griffith? Why or why not?

At this point in time after 4, no. Though I did enjoy the first one very much.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dinosaur Lake?

    Honestly, about 2/3rds

"A Fun Read for Dino Fans"

Dinosaur Lake was an engaging listen, and time just flew by listening to it.

Like (I guess) a lot of people, early in life I had a fascination with dinosaurs, and have loved seeing modern technology being able to bring them to life on the big screen in recent years. The book caters to that demographic very well. And yes, I have the upcoming unabridged Jurassic Park audiobook on pre-order... :)

The book painted the area it was set in so well I was able to picture things so well, and this made the entire book feel so alive. The people in the story were also well developed. The lead character, the ex-cop Chief Park Ranger was likeable, conscientious and in the thick of the action. There were no real "baddie" type characters, other than one of the self serving scientists, and the desk bound park service boss but even they did add to the tale, rather than being just really grating. I also found it interesting the idea of the community aided homeless camp in the park. I'm not sure if this is based on factual occurrences of this, but it was the first time I'd heard of this concept, in fiction or elsewhere.

Johnnie C Hayes did a brilliant job narrating. I'd definitely recommend him to authors looking for narrators. I found him easy to listen to, clear, and characters all felt distinct.

I look forward to listening to more books by this author (including the Dinosaur Lake sequels). Highly recommended.
