Publisher's summary

An all-new novel in the groundbreaking video game series Diablo—“the Harry Potter of computer games” (The New York Times).

For more than ten years, Diablo has been one of PC gaming’s iconic and blockbuster franchises, with millions of players experiencing to this day all the adventure and terror in the world of Sanctuary. Now, to tie-in with the long-awaited release of Blizzard Entertainment’s all-new game, Diablo III, the original novel Deckard Cain will bridge the untold story of one of Diablo’s most popular characters.

Now a much older man, Deckard Cain is on a mission to find the remnants of a rumored Horadric cell, and must call upon all of his knowledge and wit to teach and inspire those around him even as they face danger and death at every turn. Can he lead the return of a ragtag group of Horadrim and their ideals to Sanctuary...or will they die out with Cain himself?

For Diablo 3 fans!

You will like this book if you've played Diablo 2 or 3. The book focuses on Leah and Deckard Cain's first adventure. The narrator does a masterful job at bringing the medieval world to life. The story is easy to understand but complex enough to hold your attention.

If you've never played Diablo before you'll still enjoy the book too! The introduction of the characters and their interactions with one another, paint a vivid picture of how the trust and pain of the two protagonists develop into a familial relationship.

This book is excessively violent and while that doesn't put me off, I felt it lacked an element of depth that experienced fantasy veterans crave.

Amazing book!

I play Diablo 3 on a regular basis and being able to learn more about the back story leading up to the current events has always intrigued me! Being able to listen to the story made it even more enjoyable! Very well done and highly recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about Diablo 3 and the events leading up to the current status of the game!!!

super meh

I really struggled to get though the book. the flash backs were very jarring and it was slow to get started. I contemplated not even finishing the book about half way though (7 hours in) and it didn't get good until about 10 hours in.

amazing

everything was amazing about this, only complaint I guess would be no sound effects of the Demons or the fights! if that was ever added into this it would be perfect in my opinion!

Kind Of Boring, But Serves Its Purpose

Can't exactly put my finger on it, but this one was just kind of boring. I suppose I wasn't a big fan of the sudden switches between vision, flashback and present, all of which get blurred quite often. Deckard is super lame and miserable, and that's not particularly enthralling, either. As a backstory for Leah, this book serves its purpose just fine, so there's that. I like Scott Brick from the Halo series, so that was also positive. All in all, this book was OK, so if you're a fan of Diablo 3 or have already read the rest of the books in the series, I would say go ahead and knock this one out.

I absolutely love Diablo and now Scott Brick as well lol

I think that Scott Brick made the book so much better I think he executed Cain very well I'm also judging this from playing the game vs Scott reading lol he made me want to keep listening and really pulled me in. (My personal opinion that is) also this is the 3rd audiobook I've ever listened too/ finished Great story as well! love Diablo I first learned of Diablo playing in a buddys friends basement on a computer with about 7 other people and I instantly feel in love!!
