Publisher's summary

America’s most-read, most-watched, and most beloved serial killer - Dexter Morgan - is back. After selling more than one million copies and inspiring the wildly popular number one Showtime series and top-rated crime drama on pay-cable television, New York Times best-selling author Jeff Lindsay returns with his most hilarious, macabre, and purely entertaining novel yet.

Dexter Morgan has always lived a happy homicidal life. He keeps his dark urges in check by adhering to one steadfast rule...he only kills very bad people. But now Dexter is experiencing some major life changes - don’t we all? - and they’re mostly wrapped up in the eight-pound curiosity that is his newborn daughter. Family bliss is cut short, however, when Dexter is summoned to investigate the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl who has been running with a bizarre group of goths who fancy themselves to be vampires. As Dexter gets closer to the truth of what happened to the missing girl, he realizes they are not really vampires so much as cannibals. And, most disturbing...these people have decided they would really like to eat Dexter.

Jeff Lindsay’s best-selling, dark, ironic, and oftentimes laugh-out-loud hilarious novels about the lovable serial killer with no soul (but a redeeming desire to kill only people who deserve it) have gained a legion of fans and assumed a place in our culture.

More dastardly deeds desired? Listen to more Dexter.

Next winner of the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest

I could not finish this book. I don't see the attraction to this over-the-top, sarcastic hyperbole that fills at least 50% of the pages, our should I say audio. Don't wast you money or your credits.

The best so far!

When I saw that this episode of "Dexter" was narrated by the author, I was a bit dubious. But, within minutes, I was thrilled with Jeff Lindsay's reading, and liked this book best of all the Dexters so far! The touching, and funny metmorphosis that Dexter undergoes as he contemplates the new life of his daughter, Lily-Ann, strikes a true chord with every first time parent.
I hope Jeff is nearly done with Dexter number 6!

Dexter IS Delicious!

The book was fabulous. Wish this season of the show could have followed this story line. Well worth the time....

As good as the rest.

I was tentative to listen to this after reading the first several reviews about the author's narration. I had LOVED Nick Landrum's voice throughout the series thus far. But Jeff Lindsay does a decent job at narrating this edition. The book itself is excellent! Dexter loses his edge in trade for humanity for a while and it's an interesting twist on the character. As always, I remain a devoted Dexter fan.....can't wait for the next one!

My first Jeff Lindsey book. Probably my last.

I could not get into the story. I tried for 5 painful hours, before giving up. It was hard to visualize the story with the the narraters voice. Unfortunately the narrator turned me off to what may have been a good read.

Disgusted

This book was gross and disgusting. Not even Jeff Lindsay can make cannibalism "funny."

great job, Jeff!

After the weird swallowing and clucking previous reader, I'm thrilled that they've chosen to change narrators. Although this may not be the most successful Dexter novel, I think the author did a great job with the reading.

Dexter is Back!!

Another great Dexter book! The character in the book is so much more compelling than the TV character...and Jeff Lindsay does a great job as narrator as well as author. An entertaining, chilling listen.

Dexter is Inane..

Dexter is Inane would be a much better title, along with Debra is Dumb. This book was a disappointment. I very nearly stopped it more than once, but continued on, hoping we would see a glimmer of our old Dexter. When he becomes a dad, he becomes an idiot. This malady spreads through the family like wildfire, and Deb is infected as well. I am not an expert, but even I know that blood spatter analysts do not work well as partners for murder investigations and that going into a potential crime site without backup makes you nothing but stupid. Big disappointment, don't waste the money.

Oh, and by the way, Jeff Lindsay did a great job on the reading. That was the only redeeming quality.

'Dexter gets dumb' or 'Dexter jumps the shark'

Sadly - this falls below the usual Dexter fun factor. The characters all seem to be quite dumb - falling into predictable - slow plodding pace. While Dexter is often fun, ourtageous and silly - this really pushed the limit and 'jumps the shark' going into plain unacceptable levels I just can't buy into. My sense of suspended disbelief is left well behind on the killing floor along with my patence for something remotely intelligent to happen.
