Publisher's summary

America’s most-read, most-watched, and most beloved serial killer - Dexter Morgan - is back. After selling more than one million copies and inspiring the wildly popular number one Showtime series and top-rated crime drama on pay-cable television, New York Times best-selling author Jeff Lindsay returns with his most hilarious, macabre, and purely entertaining novel yet.

Dexter Morgan has always lived a happy homicidal life. He keeps his dark urges in check by adhering to one steadfast rule...he only kills very bad people. But now Dexter is experiencing some major life changes - don’t we all? - and they’re mostly wrapped up in the eight-pound curiosity that is his newborn daughter. Family bliss is cut short, however, when Dexter is summoned to investigate the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl who has been running with a bizarre group of goths who fancy themselves to be vampires. As Dexter gets closer to the truth of what happened to the missing girl, he realizes they are not really vampires so much as cannibals. And, most disturbing...these people have decided they would really like to eat Dexter.

Jeff Lindsay’s best-selling, dark, ironic, and oftentimes laugh-out-loud hilarious novels about the lovable serial killer with no soul (but a redeeming desire to kill only people who deserve it) have gained a legion of fans and assumed a place in our culture.

More dastardly deeds desired? Listen to more Dexter.

I thought I loved the televised series.

If you could sum up Dexter Is Delicious in three words, what would they be?

My guilty pleasure!

What other book might you compare Dexter Is Delicious to and why?

The other books in the Dexter series....pure entertainment.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Lindsay’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No but I will now.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Dexter's history-why he is what he became.

Absolutely wonderful! Didn't want it to be over!

Would you consider the audio edition of Dexter Is Delicious to be better than the print version?

Nothing is lost in "translation" when Jeff narrates his own books! He does a wonderful job and his dry humor is right on. I love his style of narration!

What did you like best about this story?

the humor! You have this killer, slowly feeling a few human emotions, trying very hard to be a model dad, His sister who knows his secret still wants him to use his "dark side" to help her solve police cases. Dexter's "view" of life and people really makes the story!

Which character – as performed by Jeff Lindsay – was your favorite?

Dexter

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Dexter first saw Lilly Ann.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend any of Jeff's Dexter books!

least favorite DEXTER book

I really enjoyed the previous DEXTER books but this book is pushing the envelope of 'good' bad taste a bit far, not a very clever storyline and some details of the central story are quite disgusting, but not in the usual clever and funny and over the top dexter-esque way. Felt like Jeff Lindsay had run out of ideas - well I hope not. Hopefully he'll make the next book as much fun as the previous ones.

A good time

The story and narration were alright and enjoyable. The writing is a bit simple, or maybe more accurately, dime novel like. But it’s still a good time. Like a Hollywood horror movie.

After listening to the last book, I didn't think Lindsey could top it, but he did.

True to form

***Spoilers*** This installment of Dexter faithfully continues the storyline from #4 ("Dexter in the Dark"), which was probably the best in the series. Lindsay does a good job of characterizing Dexter as a family man gradually discovering his humanity. As if that weren't disgusting enough, he shows Deborah becoming an expectant mother as well. Luckily, Dexter's brother returns to remind the main character of his duties to his "dark passenger." The strength of this installment is that Lindsay does the most soaring writing of the series; there are a lot of gorgeous sentences. But the absurd cannibalism plot is all too reminiscent of the human-sacrifice story of the low point in the series, #3 ("Dexter in the Dark"). This will be a necessary listen for anybody who likes the series, but probably more for completist reasons than for the innate value of the book.

Dexter is Dopey

Still fun but without the cleverness of the previous book. He's not as careful, cunning or confident as I remember. And lastly end up having to rely on others to save him rather than the other way round. If Dexter can't be clever at least let him go out in a blasé of glory.

Daddy Dexter

Can Dexter be a loving dad and still be our Dark Dexter? The parental love has removed some of the darkness we have come to love from our Dexter. The darkness of our dark passenger has been muted. It is the darkness and the manner in which Dexter feeds it is why the series is so unique. With Dexter attempting to be a doting father and the change in the reader this is just a shadow of our Darkly Dreaming Dexter. Wait for the next installment.
