Publisher's summary

America’s most-read, most-watched, and most beloved serial killer - Dexter Morgan - is back. After selling more than one million copies and inspiring the wildly popular number one Showtime series and top-rated crime drama on pay-cable television, New York Times best-selling author Jeff Lindsay returns with his most hilarious, macabre, and purely entertaining novel yet.

Dexter Morgan has always lived a happy homicidal life. He keeps his dark urges in check by adhering to one steadfast rule...he only kills very bad people. But now Dexter is experiencing some major life changes - don’t we all? - and they’re mostly wrapped up in the eight-pound curiosity that is his newborn daughter. Family bliss is cut short, however, when Dexter is summoned to investigate the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl who has been running with a bizarre group of goths who fancy themselves to be vampires. As Dexter gets closer to the truth of what happened to the missing girl, he realizes they are not really vampires so much as cannibals. And, most disturbing...these people have decided they would really like to eat Dexter.

Jeff Lindsay’s best-selling, dark, ironic, and oftentimes laugh-out-loud hilarious novels about the lovable serial killer with no soul (but a redeeming desire to kill only people who deserve it) have gained a legion of fans and assumed a place in our culture.

More dastardly deeds desired? Listen to more Dexter.

kinda disappointed

I've read all the Dexter books leading up to this one and I've mostly enjoyed them. I'm totally sick of "gd" coming out of Deborah's mouth every couple of seconds. I meant TOTALLY sick of it. I've stayed with the series hoping for it to get a little more exciting but this book helped me decide to end my adventure.

Apart from Deborah's horrible language and overuse of one cuss word continuously until I can't stand to hear it ever again, Dexter becomes a total woose. I get that the author is trying to show his alter ego is different like superman -- mild man in disguise then he rips it off to reveal who he really is but the author forgets that Superman only put clothes and glasses over a body built like a Mac truck. You never forgot who Superman was.

In this book, I started to wonder why I cared about Dexter and wouldn't have minded if this was his last adventure. Way too whiny and talking about himself in the 3rd person. Tell the truth, if you had an acquaintance that talked about himself in the third person and whined, wouldn't you "pimp slap" that bi-ach? -- or at least want too?

Jeff Lindsay gives us a great performance! The Dexter book series is SO much darker and a but better than the show.

Just Ok...Probably better to read than listen

The pace is pretty slow but builds. The biggest flaw was that the dialogue between the police officers was stilted, repetitive and boring. Lame insults and banter that were front and center every time Deborah was part of the story. I was hoping that she would suffer a stroke mid sentence and die - she is never more annoying than in this book. It really pulled me out of the story. It dragged a bit in the first 3rd of the book and picked up after that. I'd say if you are a passing fan of the tv series and not invested too much - skip this one. Die-hards - perhaps read it and avoid the audiobook so you can more easily scan the boring cop dialogue and get to the meat.

Narration not a problem!

I was so put off and disappointed by the poor reviews of Jeff Lindsay's narration that I delayed the reading of my very favorite character's new book. What a mistake - it was great, and Lindsay brings an excellent nuance to Dexter. I have the feeling I really am listening to Dexter (and of course, I am). That he understands the character seems a bit obvious, but the humor, sarcasm, and the 'dark passenger' coexist well in the narration. I thought Rita got a little shrill here and there, but that's OK. I won't hesitate when the next book comes out if Lindsay decides to continue his career as a narrator, though I liked the previous narrations as well. So when's the next book due?

DexDaddy Displaces Darkly Dreaming Dexter

The main antagonist in this story is probably the most disturbing yet. The book takes a while to get off the ground, but once it gets going, it's a hell of a ride. I didn't really care for Dexter's new, happier outlook in this book, but the character is evolving as any good character should. Jeff Lindsay does his usual, superb job of voicing the serial killer hunting serial killer. And a surprise guest made things very interesting. All in all, a fun roller coaster ride with the dark, dapper Dexter.

Bring Back Nick!

After about 30 minutes of listening to Jeff Lindsay narrate his book, I'm turning it off. I will happily finish the story on my Kindle. Jeff, you're a good author, but please leave the narration to Nick Landrum. After four books, he is the voice of Dexter. That being said, please keep writing!

Absolutely wonderful! Didn't want it to be over!

Would you consider the audio edition of Dexter Is Delicious to be better than the print version?

Nothing is lost in "translation" when Jeff narrates his own books! He does a wonderful job and his dry humor is right on. I love his style of narration!

What did you like best about this story?

the humor! You have this killer, slowly feeling a few human emotions, trying very hard to be a model dad, His sister who knows his secret still wants him to use his "dark side" to help her solve police cases. Dexter's "view" of life and people really makes the story!

Which character – as performed by Jeff Lindsay – was your favorite?

Dexter

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Dexter first saw Lilly Ann.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend any of Jeff's Dexter books!
