Publisher's summary

An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life - until he meets Savannah, the girl of his dreams. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who has captured his heart.

But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else. "Dear John," the letter read, and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love - and face the hardest decision of his life.

"[Dear John] brims with longing." (Publishers Weekly)

It is not the movie by a long shot!!!

I watched the movie and wanted to see what the difference was between the two. The book gives you more details on the father and fills in the blanks with john and Savannah's relationship. The movie made you think that they got together at the end not so true with the book. In the movie we can always give ourselves a happy ending but, the book just dashed all of that for me. The Narrator did a wonderful job bringing the charcter to life for me. Just wanted a better ending.

Unexpected story

This story was totally different from what I thought. Much more interesting!! Plus, it is very well narrated. It becomes so intriguing in the last half part of the story that I can't stop listening to it!

a feel good story

I am more of a historical fiction reader and decided to get this book just because I liked The Notebook. I was not disappointed at all.

Narrator did an excellent job with even portraying the female parts.

In addition to a great story, there were lots of good lessons to be learned such as being more understanding and knowing when to let go, doing the right thing and making the right choices in life. I particularly liked the information on Asperger.

In comparison to our fast paced tech driven era, I especially like the simple lifestyles of the characters in this book. I just might start getting more Nicholas Sparks books.

Easy Listen & Good Narration

The 2010 movie inspired me to read/listen to this book. I am a sucker for love stories, and the book was much better than the movie! The characters are better developed, and the plot line is more believable. I have listened to the book at least twice and still love it. The narrator did a great job with all the characters. This is a light book; if you are looking for a sweet love story with complications, you will not be disappointed.

great book

I relate to the story because my son is in the military. He has been deployed twice. His third deployment is coming up. He has a wife and daughter. So, the story hits close to home.

Narrator didn’t hold my attention

I wasn’t able to finish listening to the book because the narrator was so….. dramatic? Not sure.

It was VERY…….hard….to… LiSTEN….. to the narrator. Very unusual cadence that I believe was supposed to be a North Carolina accent, but, the landing didn’t stick,
