Publisher's summary

It’s vampire politics as usual around the town of Bon Temps, but never before have they hit so close to Sookie’s heart….

Growing up with telepathic abilities, Sookie Stackhouse realized early on there were things she'd rather not know. And now that she's an adult, she also realizes that some things that she knows about, she'd rather not see—like Eric Northman feeding off another woman. A younger one.

There's a thing or two she'd like to say about that, but she has to keep quiet—Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), is in town. It’s the worst possible time for a human body to show up in Eric's front yard—especially the body of the woman whose blood he just drank.

Now, it's up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl's fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who's set out to make Sookie's world come crashing down.

Intense

This is getting pretty dramatic y'all, and I am feeling a little winded as I've been powering through the series. One note: Johanna has gotten even better at narrating :)

This is the best, easy listening, series.

I have listened to them all and in no particular order and enjoyed every one. I know some listeners believe the series should end but not me. Deadlocked is more like a tv series season finale; a cliffhanger leaving you wanting more. I can not wait until next season. Johanna Parker has the perfect accent for Sookie, who grew up in Louisiana. Without her narration, the stories might not be so easy listening.

Tying up loose ends

What made the experience of listening to Deadlocked the most enjoyable?

The same narrator thru out the entire series

What other book might you compare Deadlocked to and why?

Dead until dark because you have a beginning and here you see the end coming

Have you listened to any of Johanna Parker’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. Great there was only one book where hear voice was off a little.

Who was the most memorable character of Deadlocked and why?

Claude because his true colors finally came out and boy what an a**hole

Any additional comments?

It was clear that she was tying up loose ends. Which made you not want to reach the end. Lots of characters make some kind of appearance.

I couldn’t love this series more

I absolutely adore the sookie stackhouse series and this book was no different. It was fast paced, exciting, and just so good! I love everything about the world that Charlaine Harris has created in this series. She’s so thorough and consistent, it makes for a truly unique reading experience. The narrator, as always, knocks it out of the park. She is wholly and truly Sookie come to life. It’s one of the reasons I got every single audiobook in the series. If the narration hadn’t been this good, I probably wouldn’t have bothered. But she makes it come to life and gives every character a distinguishable voice that really feels like it suits them. Not only that, but she’s so consistent in the voices that I instantly know who’s speaking before she even mentions the character by name. I 100% recommend this series to anyone who is curious! It’s a million times better than the TV series, though the TV series is amazing, too.

I want that 9 hours back....

So disappointing. I’ve started listening to these books in about October last year, and have now listened to all of them several times. I was so looking forward to this one, but what a letdown! Nothing happened - it felt shallow and as though it was actually a teaser for the real story. Lots of things were alluded to, but none of them actually happened.

It was almost as though Charlaine made a few vague story plot ideas and then got someone else to write it; ‘Yeah, Tara’s babies need to come; include some stuff about Eric and Bill; hey maybe Quinn should pop up again; and don’t forget to remind them about Hunter, that lawyer, Jason, Dawn and the famous chocolate cake; the fae and anyone else we’ve forgotten. Just check the character list…’

As for narration; I love Johanna Parker, and cannot imagine Sookie any other way, but it really, really annoyed me when she started trying to have Bill say 'Sookie' in the way he does on True Blood. We get that it's becoming a bit of a catch-phrase, but I would guess that most fans of the books are like me - the TV series is very separate from the books. Once you get into it, they are hardly the same story, so it's just a cheap sell out to try and emulate the actor's voice (having said that, I suspect that it was under direction from someone else, not Johanna's idea). She didn’t maintain it anyway, so that in itself was distracting.

Right, what else can I listen to on Audible? Please give me some ideas!!

You've read it all before

Dear Ms. Harris:
Please end the Sookie Stackhouse series quickly and peacefully. Each book is dragging on with little additional story and much recap of the previous books. I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the series, and since that time each book has gotten progressively worse. The latest 10-ish hours I spent listening to this book could have been done in one hour or less with a simple summary, because really, not that much happened in the latest installment.

Respectfully,
A Reader

To those of you inclined to read/listen to this book: only a few days pass in the story of "Deadlocked" and there are werewolves, vampires, fairies and other "sups." People die. Sookie is surprised several times. Eric wants to have sex with Sookie. Bill pines for Sookie. Sookie may have a crush on Sam. Yup, that about covers it. You've now just saved time and money on this book.

THis book was ok. The beef and plot were misssing.

What did you like best about Deadlocked? What did you like least?

A few loose end were ties up. Nothing new was learned in this book.No love interest. Nothing really happens....a lot of fluff not real beef.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was a dud. More action then most of the book but still not a great ending

Would you be willing to try another one of Johanna Parker’s performances?

I lost interest in the end to this series

Could you see Deadlocked being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

no

Any additional comments?

Very Disappointing/ Narrator does good job

The story didn't really have anything special about it and the ending was horrible. I can't stand the direction the series has taken. I had heard/read that it wasn't that good but I was committed to the series and was hoping it would at least be informative. I am keeping my fingers crossed the next book will turn things back around but I am not getting my hopes up. On the bright side I do like the narrator. She does a good job in all of the books I have heard her do.
