Publisher's summary

It’s vampire politics as usual around the town of Bon Temps, but never before have they hit so close to Sookie’s heart….

Growing up with telepathic abilities, Sookie Stackhouse realized early on there were things she'd rather not know. And now that she's an adult, she also realizes that some things that she knows about, she'd rather not see—like Eric Northman feeding off another woman. A younger one.

There's a thing or two she'd like to say about that, but she has to keep quiet—Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), is in town. It’s the worst possible time for a human body to show up in Eric's front yard—especially the body of the woman whose blood he just drank.

Now, it's up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl's fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who's set out to make Sookie's world come crashing down.

It was OK

Not my favorite Sookie book in the Sookieverse, but it still had its entertaining moments. Laying the groundwork for the next installment, which is rumored to be the last one I guess. It does help to tie up some loose ends in the series, and moves the storyline along. Worth the credit for sure, but if you haven't already listened to the others in the series, I would recommend starting with the first book and working to this one, otherwise, one may get a little lost.

Now I love the audiobooks, too

Would you listen to Deadlocked again? Why?

This person did a great imitation of the Sookie from TV. I had read the books, learned to almost like the television show (it's always hard to see characters you pictured in your head portrayed by someone else's imagination), and then decided the last in the series I'd listen to in audio format. It really didn't disappoint. The narrator did a great job and Charlaine Harris' books always leave me wanting to hear more.

Not her best effort

What disappointed you about Deadlocked?

It seemed that the plot points could have been made into a short story, the rest was all filler. And not really good filler at that. There was no attraction at all between Sookie and Eric. I couldn't make myself care whether they stayed together or not.

How could the performance have been better?

The reader just wasn't getting the voices down. She did horrible on the male voices and all the female voices sounded just alike.

Back to the Sookie Series we all love

After a few disappointing books in the series, this installment is back up to expectations with some humor adventure and of course lots of fun vamp scenes. Johanna Parker does her usual superb narration job bringing Sookie and her adventures to life.

Very nice

Would you consider the audio edition of Deadlocked to be better than the print version?

No, I am southern and find that narrators as well as actors over do it

Not my kind of book.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Did not finish because I lost interest. Perhaps it was just not my kind of book. Would not recommend to any of my friends.

It's just ok

Would you try another book from Charlaine Harris and/or Johanna Parker?

Yes I would try another book from Carlaine Harris... Her first True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse books were full of surprises and action. This last one did not live up to those but I knew the characters and what they had been in the past so this carried this book which made it just ok.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would like it if the story lines had been more developed maybe fewer touches on everything and more focused and developed.... Sorry to say it but Sookie almost seemed stupid.

What three words best describe Johanna Parker’s performance?

Good, monotone, Ok

Did Deadlocked inspire you to do anything?

No

Any additional comments?

Nope
