Publisher's summary

It’s vampire politics as usual around the town of Bon Temps, but never before have they hit so close to Sookie’s heart….

Growing up with telepathic abilities, Sookie Stackhouse realized early on there were things she'd rather not know. And now that she's an adult, she also realizes that some things that she knows about, she'd rather not see—like Eric Northman feeding off another woman. A younger one.

There's a thing or two she'd like to say about that, but she has to keep quiet—Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), is in town. It’s the worst possible time for a human body to show up in Eric's front yard—especially the body of the woman whose blood he just drank.

Now, it's up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl's fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who's set out to make Sookie's world come crashing down.

Harris is begining to wind up for an ending

Would you listen to Deadlocked again? Why?

Any Stackhouse fan you would understand that question. Johanna Parker does a great job with the narrations.

What other book might you compare Deadlocked to and why?

Any of C. Harris's Stackhouse stories.

Which character ??? as performed by Johanna Parker ??? was your favorite?

She does the best Suki.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Her interactions with the Fae. Anything else I tell you would ruin the book for you.

Any additional comments?

In this book it sounds as if Harris is cleaning house on her group of characters so she can end the series of Stackhouse books. Which makes me very sad to think of, but everything comes to an end. Harris is a great writer, so as long as she continues to write books, we will fall in love, over and over again, with her characters. I've read Harris's books from the beginning, the Aurora Teagarden was my introduction to her and I loved those also.

Least favorite of the all the books

What did you like best about Deadlocked? What did you like least?

It lacks any drama and flair

Has Deadlocked turned you off from other books in this genre?

I only have one more book in the series to finish but if this was the first I would have stopped listening.

Love Sookie!

Johanna Parker is by far the best narrator for these stories. I loved this series and the story line is great. This story holds your attention and makes the next story in the series something you just can't wait to hear!

Better than it has been

This installment was better than the last few books had been. For me the series started out kind of slow, then got better, then started going downhill. I had been ready to quit listening but since this one was a little better I'll go ahead and finish the series.

It's just ok

Would you try another book from Charlaine Harris and/or Johanna Parker?

Yes I would try another book from Carlaine Harris... Her first True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse books were full of surprises and action. This last one did not live up to those but I knew the characters and what they had been in the past so this carried this book which made it just ok.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would like it if the story lines had been more developed maybe fewer touches on everything and more focused and developed.... Sorry to say it but Sookie almost seemed stupid.

What three words best describe Johanna Parker’s performance?

Good, monotone, Ok

Did Deadlocked inspire you to do anything?

No

Any additional comments?

Nope

Becoming a Tired Series

Would you try another book from Charlaine Harris and/or Johanna Parker?

Yes, but I don't know if I would change my mind if the book was a Sookie book.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Very dull. I felt like the author was just over the story and wanted it to end.

What about Johanna Parker’s performance did you like?

She captures the essence of Sookie.

Was Deadlocked worth the listening time?

I'm glad I listened to it rather than read it as I would have put the book down less than halfway through the novel.

Any additional comments?

It's all the same. There is very little direction for the author to go; the plot is repetitious and I get the feeling if this isn't the last book, there aren't too many more in the future. I don't know that I will purchase or read another Sookie Stackhouse novel. I've loved them all except this one which I really wanted to end sooner rather than later.

A series that went on too long.

Johanna Parker is again a fantastic voice for Sookie. The story however, is showing how thin it’s gotten. While I love this series it arguably went on for a few too many books. Wether this is the fault of burn out by Ms. Harris or her yearly release schedule to get these books out I don’t know, but the books after 5 or 6 really start suffering.

Ok But Not Great

Deadlocked reminded me a little of the 11th Sookie, Dead Reckoning. It was not as slow as the 10th Dead in the Family but nowhere near as action and drama oriented as the 9th Dead and Gone. There was action and there was drama but a lot of the book was spent tying up some loose ends (but not all of them). I found I liked Eric less in this book than any other book and I even found Sookie to have more of a “poor me” attitude which was a little annoying. Other than the few pity parties Sookie had and Eric being a jerk I really enjoyed this book. I’m a little sad that there is reportedly only one more Sookie book left and then it will be over but I am excited to find out how it all will end. If you have read all the Sookie’s up to this point Deadlocked is a must read of course, it is good but not one of the best in my opinion.
