    "An inverted Goodnight Mister Tom"

Catherine Hall's novel mines some very familiar areas: evacuation, forbidden and emerging love, guilt and redemption. However, her attention to detail and the use of two time periods creates a very convincing and character-driven tale. Sheila Mitchell's narration defines the different time periods brilliantly.
