Publisher's summary

In ancient Israel, at the crossroads of the great trading routes, a man named Benaiah is searching for a fresh start in life. He has joined a band of soldiers led by a warlord named David, seeking to bury the past that refuses to leave him. Their ragged army is disgruntled and full of reckless men. Some are loyal to David, but others are only with him for the promise of captured wealth. While the ruthless and increasingly mad King Saul marches hopelessly against the powerful Philistines, loyal son Jonathan in tow, the land of the Hebrew tribes has never been more despondent - and more in need of rescue.

Over the course of ten days, from snowy mountain passes to sword-wracked battlefields, Benaiah and his fellow mercenaries must call upon every skill they have to survive and establish the throne for David - if they don’t kill each other first. Day of War brings to life the exploits of the Mighty Men of Israel, a rag-tag band of disgruntled warriors on the run with David, the soon-to-be King. Their legendary deeds are recorded in 2 Samuel 23 and 1 Chronicles 11.

A Comfort to My Soul

This book has truly made a difference it my life. I read it during a time of great personal difficulty; a time when my faith was being taken to it's limits. I found comfort, inspiration, challenge and hope in it's pages. Stephen's rich voice soothed my spirit while simultaneously thrilling me; bringing this incredible adventure story to life. It helped me to stand again and get back into the fight. Cliff has done us all a great service. Thank you, War Chief!

Great biblical fiction about David's mighty men

I was quite favourably impressed with both the story and the narrator. As stated in the "note to the reader," this is a violent book. Yet I would say perhaps not more violent than is merited by the subject. It certainly brings to life some of the mighty men of David named in Scripture, and I believe the book is quite true to the details we have of them and David in the Bible.

The Return of the Warrior

Any additional comments?

Cliff Graham's Day of War is unique in that it is not just a Bible based historical novel, it is a celebration of manhood in the age of the warrior. This is the only novel in this category that I am aware of that places the accent on the masculine. It is interesting how common it is to hear of male domination in societies long past and yet it is all but completely lost in modern historical novels for the feminine side with all the trappings of modern romance novels. I enjoy good solid romance material, but most come across a bit cheesy for my taste. Day of War is most certainly not a romance novel, although it does build a little bit on Benaiah's relationship with his wife. Of course, YHWH is not forgotten, after all, it is "his-story", but it is taken from a decidedly more human vantage point. It is exceptionally well written with very few cultural/historical mistakes to my knowledge. It takes the reader up close and personal into the lives of David's mighty men..

In the audio version, narrator, Stefan Rudnicki takes the story to a whole new level in which he far and exceedingly surpasses all expectations. Even if you have already read the book, I highly recommend checking out the audio production. With the voice of a commanding general, together, author and narrator, will captivate your imagination. It will put the hair back on your chest and help you realize that prayer isn't for the weak, and faith isn't a crutch for cowards.

A further note. There may be those, like me, who first picked up the book and plowed through it without giving it the necessary time and attention. If that is you, it will be difficult to appreciate the craftsmanship. After coming back to it a second time, a couple years later, I have found myself completely and utterly mesmerized. I am currently listening to the second book and now acquiring the third. This does not read like a Bible story book, reading it without paying careful attention will only make it difficult to follow and appear disjointed, because of the frequent flashbacks and going back and forth between the characters. It's like a nice handcrafted root beer, it is meant to be drunk slowly to savor the flavor. It is epic.

If u have faith you'll have to fight for it!

I was introduced to this amazing piece of gospel literature by my good friend J. Voth whoms dad knows Cliff personally, so I am told. let me first by saying I am NOT a reader I. suffer sometimes from the dilution that I can get my fragmented mind can actually focus on any given mark to a page. But to my surprise I connected with this box, the was Cliff told the story of David, Beniah, and of his elite fighting force David's mighty men is nothing should of 300 with more men. These are not the stories u heard in Sunday school these are NOT the stories you tell people from behind the pulpit. although I truly believe the Cliff captured these scenes as if they unfolded before his very eyes and he tells of the account from memory. I said to much already, Days of war is the best book I've ever read and Songs of was is amazing as well David is older and there is still a lot of action but not one the same intense level of Days. just toes you know how In love with this box I was I Taylor made a quote I Inspired completely by that book. So in the story the soldiers says "praise to our God and arrows to our enemy" in which I thought was so dang awesome! I was so inspired that I made up and tatoo that revolved ar oround that. it goes:
in days of war, we must walk humbly, pray consistently, and attack violently. in this we bring honor to or God and arrows to our enemy! jus got chills, get the book do yourself a favor. I almost forgot Cliff your promise me a copy of songs of war when it comes out, I hope it's still in production 🙏
