Publisher's summary

Elizabeth and Nathaniel Bonner have settled into their life together at the edge of the New-York wilderness in the winter of 1794. But soon after Elizabeth gives birth to healthy twins, Nathaniel learns that his father has been arrested in British Canada. Forced to leave Hidden Wolf Mountain to help his father in Montreal, Nathaniel himself is imprisoned and in danger of being hanged as a spy.

In a desperate bid to save her husband, Elizabeth bundles her infants and sets out through the snowy wilderness and across treacherous waterways on the dangerous trek to Canada. But she soon discovers that freeing her husband will take every ounce of her courage and inventiveness - and will threaten her with the loss of what she loves most: her children.

Torn apart, the Bonners must embark on yet another perilous voyage, this time all the way across the ocean to the heart of Scotland, where a destiny they could never have imagined awaits them....

good second book

What made the experience of listening to Dawn on a Distant Shore the most enjoyable?

Kate Reading is an amazing reader and does a wonderful job letting you fall into this book. The overall book was solid and enjoyable. I loved the complications and twists that came up and am looking forward to listening to more in the series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

One character death (you'll know it) had me in tears. Also the anger at the kidnappers was very strong and i couldn't sleep until thy were well on their way to catching up.

Amazing narration. She captures dialects, languages and cultural phonetics.

The story is extreme but very compelling. It builds on the characters from book 1. And the historical accuracy is important to better understand the new nation in relation to the Old World. The narration brings it to life with unbelievable clarity. I feel like I can speak Scots and "Mohawk".

Part 2 of The Wilderness Adventure- does not disappoint

There are so many twists and turns in this story that the reader may start to wonder, “How can one family come back from all of this?”
That said, and to avoid spoilers, if you were hooked by the adventure, romance, and suspense of the first book, then you must read/listen to this 2nd book! Kate Reading out does herself with all the accents and range of emotions! Her performance definitely helped me feel I could see the action in my mind. Seems these books would make excellent movies or a TV series, like Outlander.
I was out of credits and bought more because I knew I would be hooked by this series...and I am! On to the next...

Loved it! I couldn’t put it down.

This was a great story with adventurous twists and turns, very interesting characters and wonderful description of the scenery. The narrator was absolutely Wonderful. She was able to switch voices for adults, children and the elderly. She was especially great with accents. It made the story come alive when she changed accents from British, American, Native American, Scottish and Irish. She is very talented. I want to research any other books that she has narrated because it really gave it a wonderful sparkle. Now that I’ve read the first two books in this series I am eager to go onto the next.

Sarah Donati does it again

Wonderful series so far. Kate Reading also adds a fabulous performance. I'm sharing this series with all of my friends. Don't expect Outlander. But "Into The Wilderness" and now "Dawn on a Distant Shore" will not disappoint. it's a little different but just as entertaining. This series is rich in history and I enjoy learning more about the Mohawk / Kanien'kehá:ka people. Such beautiful people.
