"An enchanting series." (People)
"The scripts are great and you can't beat the casting." (The New York Times)
Outstanding. My boys grew up on cassettes I'd made of the Rabbit Ears Radio shows. Music and Narriation on all the shows are great.
A great rule for getting kids music/stories: Be sure you're ready to hear it 100 times. No problem with these as the entire series is entertaining for adults too. Don't overlook who the musicians are doing the background music. Davy Crocket has David Bromberg as the musician. Like all the series, this recording is first class!
I'm a children's counselor specializing in bibliotherapy and cinematherapy for children who have experienced trauma. I play folk guitar.
Nicolas Cage does a delightful narration giving Davy a homespun, rough and tumble personality for the humorous folk stories about Crockett and he stays in that character, but softening it, when Davy talks about the serious history he lived through and his feelings for his wife and daughters. All of the stories, folk or historical, give messages about Crockett's belief in equality and treating all people fairly. Younger children will be delighted with the sound of Davy's voice and the peculiar words and phrases used in Kentucky in the 18th century. They'll be able to understand the humorous stories. Cage's opposum voice is priceless; the opposum story alone is worth the cost of downloading. Older children who know about the Alamo and some history will understand what Davy means when he describes these things and will understand that Davy didn't survive. Because of the way Davy describes it, younger children won't follow that and they'll just be left with a happy feeling at having heard Davy Crockett's stories. As a children's counselor, I know that children will connect with Davy because of the warmth and fun and exuberance in Davy's voice. Younger children would be saddened if the end of his life were described directly. I appreciate that quality and sensitivity. Adults will especially enjoy the personality in Cage's characterization.

A cute story though I wonder how true it is... As for the narration, Nicolas Cage does a great job in making this a fun listen!
