Publisher's summary

For years, operative James Nash has performed ultra-covert "Black Ops" missions for The Agency, but when he decides to walk away from their dirty work, his corrupt bosses aren't about to let him go. After Nash is nearly assassinated, Troubleshooters team leader Lawrence Decker launches a skillful deception to neutralize the threat and protect his friend. With the FBI's help, Decker fakes Nash's death, then brings him to a safe house with his fiancee, Tess Bailey, to recover from his injuries and strategize their next move.

Only a handful of people know that Nash is still alive - and fellow Troubleshooters Dave Malkoff, Sophia Ghaffari, and receptionist Tracy Shapiro aren't among them. Believing that Nash is dead and that Decker has begun a romantic relationship with Tess, Sophia settles for second best and begins a love affair with Dave, who has adored her for years. But Tracy puts two and two together, discovering the truth about Nash - much to Decker's dismay.

As passions flare, Decker struggles to keep his scheme afloat, and to keep Nash alive. But when he finds himself targeted for death, the game turns even more perilous, and Sophia, Tracy, and Dave are swept into the deadly play. Under fire and racing to unmask their relentless adversary, the Troubleshooters know that the closer they get, the greater the risks. But sacrifices and consequences come with the territory. Forced to choose between love and loyalty, they are no longer just solving a crime - they're fighting for survival.

More in the Troubleshooters series.

My first and my last

This was the first audiobook by Suzanne Brockmann that I've ever purchased, and I've listened to a LOT of books on tape. I can't imagine that listening to the author's other reads would have helped me to enjoy this book. The entire story was littered with too many awkward, crude sex scenes with uncomfortable, unbelievable dialogue . . . usually at times that were ostensibly life or death for the characters. After seventeen hours of this, my husband and I were rolling our eyes and ready to be finished with the darn thing.

Jackie Collins meets Lee Child

I "took advantage" of Audible's sale a couple months ago to grab a couple books. I should have taken more time to read the reviews and descriptions. This is a truly ridiculous book from my perspective. I was going to stop listening but was determined to get through it to punish myself for being so stupid. The story line seems to exist so that the author can delve into the emotions and relationships between so called operatives of a security agency. She mixes in stabbings, beatings, white slavery, beheadings, shootings, torture with breathless female longing for the macho studs who were all former SEALS, CIA or FBI. The guys have graphic thoughts also but whatever!
Be prepared if you buy this for a really thin plot, ridiculous characters and narration which alternates between two subpar readers.

A romance novel masquerading as a mystery/thriller

Not my cup of tea. Women were boy-crazy, men were one-dimensional and villain was barely developed as a character.

Never so happy to be at the end of a book.

If you like sexual tension, this book is for you. For me, The storyline was sophomoric. Does he like me? Does she like me? Should we do it, or should we not? The female narrator sounded like she was a young girl. Which made it even worse. There was some suspense. But I thought there was way too much side story about relationships.

sex obcessed narration

Ms. Brockmann has created characters who are sex obcessed .. that's all they think about .. and oh in the middle of those lusty thought, acts and deeds there is a crime ... There is a "little" plot, but mostly I would relegate this novel to those who like VERY light reading with little substance and lots, lots, lots of sex. Male narrator is medocre at best. Female narrator did s good job.

Where is the plot?

I listened for 20 minutes I never got past a sex scene . Teen romance is not my genre. If it’s action spy as billed This isn’t how to open a book. I want to start listening to a story right away. Just get on with the story I don’t care about these two people yet and you haven’t made me interested in continuing. This my first book by this author and my last I’m returning it I have no interest in reading the rest of the story

Six characters in search of an editor

This is the worst audiobook I have ever purchased in my 4 years as an Audible member. I was swayed by its ratings. I thought I should mitigate the many stars it's been deemed to merit by a good number of readers with my own verdict on its worth. This book is very badly in need of a serious edit. The writing is tedious and repetitious and typical of the quality and content of a Harlequin romance. Female narrator's little girl voice may be well suited to the soft core porn-ishness of the content, but was very annoying to the ear of this listener. Caveat emptor!

No so good

I've read this before it definitely not worth a second reading. Did not learn anything that I had not noticed the first time around.
