For two families, it was supposed to be a relaxing camping trip in the California mountains. They thought it would be fun to get away from everything for a while. But they're not alone. The woods are also home to two terrifying residents who don't take kindly to strangers - an old hag with unholy powers and her hulking son, a half-wild brute with uncontrollable, violent urges. The campers still need to get away - but now their lives depend on it!

Excellent adventure story! This was my first Laymon book that I read in paperback, years ago, and I was looking forward very much to the audio version. Many of my friends read my paperback and whether they liked horror or not, ALL of them enjoyed this story.
Randy is a very good narrator but due to his deep voice not a perfect fit for this specific book.
It was pretty good - definitely on my list of keepers and listen to agains....
The story stopped and changed a few times, which made it a little hard to follow a few times, but once I realised what was happening I was all good again.
"Dark Mountain" is a serviceable thriller. It's entertaining, if there's nothing better on the shelf. This book would have been made considerably better with some editing. Much of the interplay between characters doesn't serve to advance the story.
The narrator isn't well suited for this particular work, although he gives it his best.
The author's attention to minutia (particularly sexual minutia) can be distracting, and might work better in a different kind of book. The effort is there, but the final product is lacking.
This is the first time i have read any of Richard Laymons books and i am so glad i did this is your worst camping trip nightmare, you just don't wanna be there its chilling and you are longing for the characters to get out the woods, its very graphic with alot of sexual encounters, and its very gross in some places i loved it!
"Worst book ever.... And that's not all"
Story - the story was so weak that it felt like it was written by a teenager, I almost expected it to end with one of those lazy " and then I woke up " endings. It was full of cliches and very lazy shortcuts. There were lots of descriptions of sex but these felt like they were bolted on by an editor who was looking at a specific market. Some of the sex was wildly inappropriate and we're not there to move the story along.
Narrator - absolutely awful and in fact spoiled it right from the off, he sounds like one of those voice over artists who do the infomercials on shopping channels (hence my title) . His emphasis on certain words actually spoiled the whole narrative.
Not really, but I will avoid the narrator.
Even Derek Jacobi could not make the story work
Disappointment as it had been highly recommend by others
I will be asking for my credit to be refunded on this one.
"Dark Mountain - Don't bother!!!!"
I had high hope for this book but the story line was totally unbelievable and laughable at times.
The story line.
