Publisher's summary

It's February 1991. Desert Storm is raging in Iraq but 22-year-old Jack has more pressing matters at home. His favorite bar, The Spot, is about to be sold out from under his friend Julio. No longer merely reactive, Jack takes the fight to his enemies and demonstrates his innate talent for seeing biters get bit. With a body count even higher than in Cold City, Dark City hurtles Jack toward the climax of this formative New York odyssey in which all scores will be settled, all debts paid.

Dark City is the second of three new novels revealing the early years of Repairman Jack, one of the most popular characters in contemporary dark fantasy: a self-styled "fix-it" man who is no stranger to the macabre or the supernatural, hired by victimized people who have nowhere else to turn.

Critic reviews

"Repairman Jack is one of my favorite characters - I'm full of happy anticipation every time I hold a new RJ novel in my hands." (Charlaine Harris, author of the Southern Vampire mysteries featuring Sookie Stackhouse)

Slooooow

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Picks up a bit in the second half, but I'm not sure the payoff was worth it. Actually, I'm sure the payoff was not worth all the hours I put into this. Bottom line, there's way too little of Jack and far too much of the side stories. Too much detail put into characters that are not Jack. Like when Wilson shows us step-by-step how a guy goes about scamming a senior citizen out of her savings. Goes on and on for hours. Literally. Soooo boring. Otherwise well-written and I still count myself a fan.

Repairman Jack Early Years Book 2

After being quite disappointed in the first novel in this series, I decided to go ahead and listen to this, the second book, I liked it quite a bit better than the first book..especially since there weren't hanging story lines as there were in the first book...

I enjoyed this so much I purchased the third in this series plus the first one in the original series..

Recommended for those who like fix-it type guys with a touch of paranormal

Big Disappointment

Nearly half the book was spent summarizing the previous book, the rest circled around much of the time, and then it abruptly ended.

Going to the new world order

I find Jack to be the working mans conscience. F Paul Wilson can spin the tail of the street, with the flavor of wright and wrong, walking the fine line in the center of the highway.

Filling in the blanks.

Loved hearing how Jack acquired his friendship's that are established in the earlier works. Great story. Awesome character.

Young Jack!

Loved it! The roots of the best character in a series of novels I have ever encountered. I read voraciously and only look forward to the considerable inventory available from the mind of F. Paul Wilson. Doc, you are the goods!

Best in the “Early Days” series

The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because of all the terrorist stuff which is really annoying. I’m ok with side character development to give color to Jacks fixes but it just drags on and it didn’t fit with the theme. I don’t understand why Wilson cant just make books about Jack doing fixes. The “War on America” and “The Otherness” are unnecessary,
Just let Jack be Repairman Jack.
