Publisher's summary

Four men, one calling: to serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, and their partners willingly stand up to the worst the world can offer. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood. While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they’re quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark. They know that God desires to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, but their children are beginning to drift farther and farther away from them. Will they be able to find a way to serve and protect those who are most dear to them? When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer to God... and to their children? Bestselling author Randy Alcorn brings the heart-pounding drama of the screenplay by Alex and Stephen Kendrick to this inspiring novel that also includes subplots, characters, and backstory not seen in the movie.

A great book to add to your library

This is a great book for fathers and sons to read. It brings us back to our rolls and how we can impact the next generation if we try. It also puts a challenge to bring our lives up a notch as christians. We are here to be an example to others.

Inspirational

A friend of mine has watched the movie many times. She bought me the movie for Christmas. I prefered to read the book before seeing a movie. Although the movie was good, the book is much better!

Great movie ok book

I'm a little torn on this review because I love the storyline, the people and the message. the problem I have is that with this novel from a movie the author tried to hold everything in the movie while adding to the plot which made it seem a little choppy. The are some good new twists and a couple of ok new personalities that could have added to the book but instead they seemed forced. this is my first book by this author so I'm not sure if it's him or the circumstances. I do know this.... when these brothers had War Room made into a novel they did it right so don't give up on the idea. Also lose the music between chapters 😨.

Going to Church!

Any additional comments?

I liked this book. I thought the narrator did well with distinguishing all the characters. More towards the end of the book it gets all churchy, but it was still a good book.

Passionate about the role of men in society

What did you love best about Courageous?

I was pleased with the transparency of the characters - each showed their vulnerabilities and faults, but at the same time a driving sense of being all they could be ... with a little accountability and a lot of help from God, they did what we all need to do... resolve to be men and women, fathers and mothers, of courage.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Courageous?

When Javier is offered a promotion in his work but suspects the boss might want him to pull some strings and do something illegal for him... wont spoil it but a great lesson in that.

What about Roger Mueller’s performance did you like?

Roger did a fine job with the characterisation of different voices and kept the pace of the story alive... great job!!!

If you could rename Courageous, what would you call it?

The Resolution

Any additional comments?

There were plenty of laughs along the way, but there is a sense of purpose in this screenplay and book that compels us to return to a time that seems forgotten, yet it has never really left us... that time when fathers would not let go of loving their family no matter what, and everyone in the family knew it... a time when "what pleases God" seemed to be the best option.. that time is now.

A Little Disappointing

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was too long for the content of the story. This was a book written from a movie instead of the other way around. I heard Randy Alcorn (who I very much enjoy) in an interview discussing the challenge of "adding" to the story to provide content for the book. This is pretty evident as you read the book. Alcorn did an excellent job of working the storyline around the screenplay in the absurd amount of time they gave him to do write the book. But what comes over very well in a movie gets redundant in a book made from a movie.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Courageous?

Finding out which law enforcement officer was stealing drugs was one harrowing moment. I suppose the most memorable moment would be when the little girl was killed and how God used that situation to bring her family closer to Himself.

Do you think Courageous needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No.

Any additional comments?

I have all the movies that the church in Albany, Ga. have produced and enjoy them all; however, this movie (Courageous) and the resulting book written from it were a little disappointing. Still worth seeing and reading, but not quite as good as Fireproof, Facing the Giants, and Flywheel...

A Must Read for Early Adolescent Males

What did you like best about Courageous? What did you like least?

A jaw-dropping young police officer once told me he and his colleagues went to "choir practice" every Wednsday after work. I was looking for religious connections at the time; I took him litterally. I would have devoured this book at that time, but I'm just of the wrong population to appreciate it today.

Has Courageous turned you off from other books in this genre?

Sorry, I don't know which genre this would be in. Teens? Self development? Fiction?

Have you listened to any of Roger Mueller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Was Courageous worth the listening time?

Sure.

Any additional comments?

I did enjoy being entertained with a minimum of profanity and loads of positive inspiration. Roger Mueller was perfect for this work.
