Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood. While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they’re quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark. They know that God desires to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, but their children are beginning to drift farther and farther away from them. Will they be able to find a way to serve and protect those who are most dear to them? When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer to God... and to their children? Bestselling author Randy Alcorn brings the heart-pounding drama of the screenplay by Alex and Stephen Kendrick to this inspiring novel that also includes subplots, characters, and backstory not seen in the movie.

    "Excellent!!"

As a police officer's spouse... I identified with the situations in this book right off the bat. The writers did an excellent job capturing the life of a law enforcement officer and their family. Right down to some of the smallest detail.

"Great idea, not so great writing"

The ideas set forth in this book are great. Unfortunately, the writing did not match up to it. It was certainly worth reading and I got a lot out of it, but from a literary sense, it was tedious. These men were truly heroes. Maybe better said, they were true men. I wish there were a lot more of their ilk in this world.

    "Simply Awesome!"

This is one the best books I've read in a long time. Although the main characters were men I learned things that are valuable to women also. This was definitely worth the read. I stumbled acrossed it while searching for narrations by Roger Mueller. After reading it, I suggested it to several friends and family members. Little did I know, shortly thereafter it would go to the big screen. Let me add, I LOVE listening to Roger Mueller. His energy engulfs you and leaves you wanting for more. He has not disappointed me yet. It was he who got me listening to audiobooks. Great job! Great story!

"Everything will work for the good"
Would you listen to Courageous again? Why?

Jip. Good lessons to be learned

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Most: parents dealing with the death of a child. Least: it is anpredictable story

Which character – as performed by Roger Mueller – was your favorite?

He has a great talent of making each caracter special and unique.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Courage comes from deep within

    Any additional comments?

This is a great story!! Like always Randy Alcorn did not disappoint

"Wish I could get my credit back"
Would you try another book from the authors and/or Roger Mueller?

Absolutely not. It is poorly written, the music openings for each chapter make it sound like a low budget movie. The preaching is tiresome. If you have trouble falling asleep, this might be for you.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    not sure, possibly "Ireland"

Would you be willing to try another one of Roger Mueller’s performances?

    no

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment

    Any additional comments?

I wish there was an easy way to get a credit back for books such as this.

    "The world needs more fathers"

The message of being a father to our children is often lost in today's society. So many people believe a child does not need to have both parents involved in their lives; that they'll turn out just fine. While at times a child does turn out "fine", the truth is that the odds are significantly stacked against them. This story really drives home the fact that we, as father's, are not just "sperm donors." We have a moral, and even more a spiritual, obligation to raise our children so that the decay of society does not fill that vacuum should we choose to not be part of our children's lives. While the story in this audiobook gets a little long in some places, it's still a truly inspiring story that should remind and motivate us as father's to make the proper raising of our children one of the most important goals we could ever set for ourselves.

    "A book about parenting"
Would you listen to Courageous again? Why?

Maybe. It is exactly like the movie and I own the movie. That is the only reason I would not listen to it again.

If you could rename Courageous, what would you call it?

A book for parents. I know it is aimed at dads, but being a mother, I am also reminded how important time with your kids should be. We should all strive to be closer to God and if you get that right, most will just fall into place. But having said that, we should consider our time with our children precious because we have no idea how much time we have with them!!

    "Keep Looking"
What would have made Courageous better?

After listening to about half of this book, I just had to stop. The dialogue becomes next to "preachy" and its reasoning sophomoric. The descriptive narrative is just something to get through. Although I found the premise promising, it delivered a disappointing tone and story.

What about Roger Mueller’s performance did you like?

The narration was excellent and I will look for other books narrated by Mr. Mueller.

I was amazed by this book as it was written after the movie. Very good job. You well enjoy this book

What was one of the most memorable moments of Courageous?

Learning the back ground of each guy.

"What is all the hype about?"

Another one that I forced myself to finish. Too much hype about the book/movie ruined it for me to the point that I have the movie unopened. Too much packed into one story for me.
I have never liked Randy Alcorn but thought I would see if this was different.

Bottom line - not for me.
